Pit-Fighter Longplay (Arcade) [4K]

Developed and published by Atari Games in 1990
One of my guilty pleasures, Pit-Fighter was never a great game, but there's something so delightfully low rent about it that it never stopped being fun. This game used digitised sprites several years before Mortal Kombat, and the clarity/resolution of the actors is pretty good for the time.
I recorded play-throughs using each of the three available characters, and it was interesting to note that the final score earned was practically identical.
Also, I have the suspicion the game starts depleting health after you're no longer on max energy, even when you take no damage - watch the final fight between Buzz and the Warrior.

I remember when this was new, even then it was janky as F but I was fascinated by the attract screen. I tried to buy it on SNES years later but couldn't find a copy. After I managed to rent it and realised with horror how close I'd come to throwing money down the drain.

This game will never not be funny. You're right on when you say it's "low rent". The best kind of trash. To this day I still wonder what Buzz's fighting stance is all about, and also how many hours he spent on the Thighmaster.

This is the first arcade I remember seeing older 20-somethings crowded around. The graphics made it seem next level. It was like Mortal Kombat before Mortal Kombat…except it sucked.

@@Merknilash PitFighter did not suck during it's era. It's one of the best fighters during the late 80s & 1990. Everyone forgets that fighting games existed before Street Fighter 2. SF2's ruleset wasn't the standard yet so you can't judge games that came before it to the same criteria..

It's really a case of not trying to be too fancy or showboat - Ty has longer range, and his punches/elbow can keep the enemies stun-locked. Dodge-rolling toward the opponent then mashing the punch button means the AI doesn't catch you with a counter-attack; rinse and repeat 😉

The Sega Master System was terrible, too. It wasn't until SEGA's famous 8-bit powerhouse was discontinued in 1992 that we started seeing breakthrough graphics on that console.
