THE TRIBUTE SHE DESERVES 👏👏👏 seriously Fry is one of my favorite fictional characters from a one-off movie and it’s sad that people don’t talk about her or this movie more. I love the parallels and juxtapositions you set up, especially Carolyn refusing to become captain, her actual co-Captain dying in her arms, to her claiming that title and all its responsibilities for herself. It really shows her growth and her whole emotional arc about responsibility and shame. Also, the “I’m not gonna die for them / I would die for them”!!!! The “I should’ve walked away” line really sells it - if she valued her own life above all else, she should’ve walked away, but she decided the lives of her passengers mattered more than her own life. Even the contrast of “I said I’d die for them, not you,” followed immediately by her dying for Riddick - even that sells her as a hero who’d grown even more than she realized. She didn’t want to die for Riddick but when push came to shove, she risked it anyway.
