I m blown away the way Mathew describes it. It was Bang WOW. Describing an abstract art to a masterpiece. You guys are the gurus of everything.

Can you suggest some books where I can learn design terms and how to look at things differently. I guess Chris has suggested few books but which link was that I don't remember.

So beautifully demonstrated by Matt. Critical thinking done on the fly. As a design student at university, I am gearing up to begin working with clients and this was an immensely beneficial video for me to see at this point of transition in my career. Really great content. Thanks Futur.

I struggle talking about design too. I agree that for self-taught is kind of harder to learn the formal language of design, cause Ben´s right! At school you can learn it from your teachers so easy. To discover such terms by your own is more difficult. All we agree that we designers can´t refer to work as everyone else. We must show some professionalism.I like Mathew´s descriptive narrative, so rich. Talking about the details, the frame by frame after the general overview, so cool. The use of rhetoric figures is a valuable tool of analysis and reflexion of the design. When pitching we look at all the key elements and have to base decision making. Elements such as structure, composition, form & content, typography, color, etc form the whole expression speech. (Did I say it well??) We are talking of about more than 300 design terms!!I´ve made a little list of books that are useful for learning the basic design terms: *Wassily Kandinsky - Point and line to plane, 1926 *Donis A. Dondis - La sintaxis de la imagen, 1972 *Wucius Wong - Principles of three-dimensional design, 1977 *Rudolf Arnheim - Art and visual perception, 1954 *Gaetano Kanizsa - Grammar of Vision: Perception and Thought, 1987 *Rosa Puente - Dibujo y comunicación gráfica, 1997 Hum, did I get it right? Wow, I didn’t even remember I knew this things! ^-^ Thank you for letting us participate, I´m learning so much! Great video! Best regards!

Fantastic short vid. Thanks for this. Only wanted to say that it is those moments where studying at fine art/design universities come in handy; when you need to describe your work to tutors and other students in a more complex manner using a particular language.

More of this & more of Matt, he killed that. I'd love to see a pitch with something that the designers have developed or worked on. Where the presenter has a deep understanding of the desired outcomes and the reasons behind the decisions made in the concepts. In reality, you'd almost always have insight into what your presenting, although this "on the fly" stuff is still great.

This is great, really helpful, I'm in awe at how natural Matt was. Would love to see a take on how you guys walk a client through a website design comp (high-fidelity), maybe something like a fashion site. It'd be interesting to see how you pitch a design that's a little less artful and abstract, and that conforms to a more branded e-commerce experience, why certain design features were implemented, and how you avoid friction or counter on feedback that would undermine a good design decision, e.g. a client wanting to do something that breaks layout, or not understanding the use of whitespace to lead users through the site.

He is amazing! Would love to see him present more pieces, a brochure perhaps? What I am paying attention to in particular is the way he is phrasing his sentences... Such as: "we started to introduce" "as we progress through the spot" and even something like "I want guy guys to know" - that may just be regular English, but sometimes I can't think of that stuff and just use my same old 3 sentences, ha.

So this is my super condensed takeaway from Matthews fantastic presentation: 1. Explain what we are seeing - set the context 2. Introduce the big ideas 3. Use interesting, relevant adjectives to describe the work (Tactile, Warm, Unexpected, Beautiful, Celebratory) 4. Weave in the big ideas to explain the details throughout the presentation - (tell a story) 5. Explain the parts that aren’t obvious from the visuals. 6. End on why it’s all important Maybe I missed some other important takeaways?
