I totally agree that people should be thinking of how they're pitching their idea as part of the buyer's business. I get it that people who are new to the industry want their very entertaining project to be picked up, but understanding that this is a business first is so important.

Thank you for another jewel! Just had a kids and family animated movie I directed for a producer picked up on Tubi and Amazon Prime streaming. You're a blessing because throughout the years that I was working on the movie, in the background was listening, learning and still learning from your Surviving Animation posts that you share. 🙏

Another good video, Eric. Couple comments: 1) It takes sooo long to put together any of these deals and 2025 might be better spent for many/most people just putting the elements together to make their pitch more compelling in the future. So, find production partners, studios, talent who net positive the work or who can help put together the trailers, etc that have become defacto expected for when markets open up. 2) It might be wish casting, but we're hoping that "big brands" could include shows based on popular public domain IP. Check in with me later in the year to see if that bet pays off at all, lol! 3) log rolling here, but for those at Kidscreen this year, come to the panel I'm moderating called "Greenlight Yourself" -- we'll tackle a lot of nuts and bolts of starting an animated KZbin channel with a panel of creators and YT execs.

Thanks for sharing, some great advise in here. I've recently changed tack and targeting our marketing towards how to best approach direct to consumer. We've tried a few different things with varying results, but its been fun. Currently looking at private investors that may fit our IP for 'collaborations'

Product placement. Write and animate around that product. Make it the Mcguffin. Pitch that to the buyer. They don't like it? Make the product hot swappable and pitch it to someone else. Make the story and design appeal to every demographic (impossible). Booze to toys. Danger Dan (Danielle) in the Quest for (Insert product name).

Great ideas, insight and analysis. Certainly illuminating - and full of industry awareness. Hollywood used to be the best of the best. And it just feels so empty and stale now. There is no lure on that hook. Money barely buys them production value anymore... because the production value, while high, seems to be so artificial it actually erodes imagination and suspension of disbelief. Keep your heart in your art, folks.

Direct consumer? Like what I've been doing with my comic book series since 2015? Lol I'm not giving up. I know Tercona will be a cartoon...someday. 😁

Yes! A comic book is one form of engagement. But brands need to also connect to audiences via social media, live events, consumer products, and free video platforms like KZbin, Twitch, Tik-Tok, etc. Keep at it, friend!

Thats a first. My youtube comment got deleted. I just put a link to another youtube video in the comment. Was that it? Was it a bot or the video channel that deleted it? Feels like something that would happen on facebook, not youtube. So I am surprised.
