I've been a project manager for 6months but worked in project delivery in various industries (IT, Construction & Telecoms) He is my advice, Prince2 is just a tick box for recruitment and often the methodologies are not actually used by companies. But they do help YOU deliver stuff successfully, everyone's management style is different and there isn't really a "correct" way to be a PM. One thing you didn't really speak about is APM it covers both Agile and Waterfall methodologies and the route you can take if you want to become chartered (UK version of PMP) SOME employees will ask for PMP or APM if you are doing government, bank related project delivery. So if your new to project management, I would get prince2 and then whatever your employer wants you too grab.

I come from a construction management background and tomorrow I will be commencing my first role in PM as a developer-side PM after working as a consulting QS for some time. After binge watching a lot of videos on PM, I’m now seriously considering the possibility of working as a tech PM in the future. Could you please give me some advice on how to prepare myself for the career change? Many thanks!

I started with the AgilePM foundation and practioner and I'm currently trying to get my money back for the Prince2 cos what I want to do is Software development projects. I'm currently employed as a Digital and Data Project Manager. Meanwhile do I still need Scrum after doing AgilePM because I see the later is more of DSDM, although I see similarities with Scrum. Just trying to choose an alternative for Prince2 as it seems I may not be able to get my money back. Thanks
@pitolinmotion
@pitolinmotion Жыл бұрын
Hey! So you don’t ‘need’ any of theses certs. Technically you’re already working as a PM. However if you just want a cert under your belt, I say you just need one cert (unless your company asks otherwise) try to understand what model you are using to deliver project currently. Ask your manager which will be more aligned to what you are delivering too. But yes defo instead of Prince2 I’d say scrum or agilepm is way more aligned to sw dev. I don’t think you need both unless you actually implement scrum at work

Hi. I’ve got a question. I’m coming to the end of my time in the military and inevitably going to have to find a new job. I’ll be 30. I’ve got years of management with my troops. Both in and out of the U.K. in nice/not so nice environments. Ive a good understanding in communication as I teach the subject on a regular basis to my team going on certain courses/jobs. I’m thinking project management would be a good route. I’ll be leaving with little qualifications in most areas other than management and leadership qualifications. Management is what I do day to day. I manage people, deployments, specific days, events, peoples careers. It’s fairly dynamic. I think project management would match my skill set I’ve picked up through the military. The forces will provide me to do PRINCE2 before I leave too. What’s your opinion on ex forces moving into project management?
@pitolinmotion
@pitolinmotion 2 жыл бұрын
Hiya, I believe you can get into PM from ant occupation. As long as you can clearly communicate how you can leverage your current skills for pm you are on your way. It’s competitive to get in, so just be aware of that. But those that persevere will make it with the right skills and propensity to learn fast

Hey! I don’t advise unless through my consulting services, but think about the delivery style. Although sw based, the overall onboarding process is giving me waterfall vibes. But depends on how you are onboarding. Is it feature based? Agile could be appropriate. If full deployment client by client. Probs best a waterfall type methodology for better control

Hiya! Haha honestly there’s no real tips I can give cos the questions are so different. I would say read the question very very carefully and the answers very very carefully. There will be a few tricky answers which will look almost identical. But there will be a subtle difference . So it is very easy to get questions wrong if you don’t pay attention to detail. But apart from that, the time goes fairly quickly. Im dyslexic so I actually get extra time, but even with that, I found that the time went fast😨 don’t get bogged down on questions you don’t know. Leave it and come back to it. All the best with your exam! And let me know how it goes ! 🎉

Hey girly! And welcome to this side of life (soon) haha. Yes the CAPM is recognised in the UK, I would just make sure I put ‘(PMI)’ next to it on your CV / Resume. What you could also do for a bit more peace of mind, is to research a few jobs you would ideally like to go for in the UK ( you can find roles on indeed.co.uk, Reed.co.uk, LinkedIn or directly on the company’s website) If you check the job requirements, they will usually tell you what type of qualification they prefer. Although in my opinion it’s just a check box activity for most firms. Hope that helps !

Hey! Just want to say amazing video!! Best video for me on youtube on this topic. My scenario: I have applied to 2 MSc courses, one is called Software Project Management MSc and the other is called Project Management MSc. I have a solid choice of pursuing a career in the software space, so from your explanation, AgilePM is the best choice for me. My dilemma: Software Project Management MSc at Royal Holloway University focuses on the software space ofc, but they take teachings from PRINCE2 methodologies in this course, which is not entirely tailored to the software industry, although they teach the software terminology and market. I think they also include a foundation level of PRINCE2 certificate at no extra cost, not guaranteed. Project Management MSc at the University of Westminster teaches standard project management ofc, not focused on the software space and I have the choice to do a foundation PRINCE2 or foundation AgilePM at no extra cost guaranteed. Now my question is, which do I do? Which is the best option for me to get into the software space? Thank you in advance!

Tbh I think either one will be cool. Project Management is hard to get into regardless of what course you do anyways. So I suggest you just do the one you’ll find most enjoyable and pass with a good mark. On the side if you want to increase your knowledge to focus on some agile methodologies then you can do that also !
