@mdge Жыл бұрын
I've been a project manager for 6months but worked in project delivery in various industries (IT, Construction & Telecoms) He is my advice, Prince2 is just a tick box for recruitment and often the methodologies are not actually used by companies. But they do help YOU deliver stuff successfully, everyone's management style is different and there isn't really a "correct" way to be a PM. One thing you didn't really speak about is APM it covers both Agile and Waterfall methodologies and the route you can take if you want to become chartered (UK version of PMP) SOME employees will ask for PMP or APM if you are doing government, bank related project delivery. So if your new to project management, I would get prince2 and then whatever your employer wants you too grab.

Could you please give me some advice on how to prepare myself for the career change? Many thanks!

Hey! Just want to say amazing video!! Best video for me on youtube on this topic. My scenario: I have applied to 2 MSc courses, one is called Software Project Management MSc and the other is called Project Management MSc. I have a solid choice of pursuing a career in the software space, so from your explanation, AgilePM is the best choice for me. My dilemma: Software Project Management MSc at Royal Holloway University focuses on the software space ofc, but they take teachings from PRINCE2 methodologies in this course, which is not entirely tailored to the software industry, although they teach the software terminology and market. I think they also include a foundation level of PRINCE2 certificate at no extra cost, not guaranteed. Project Management MSc at the University of Westminster teaches standard project management ofc, not focused on the software space and I have the choice to do a foundation PRINCE2 or foundation AgilePM at no extra cost guaranteed. Now my question is, which do I do? Which is the best option for me to get into the software space? Thank you in advance!

Hey! Thank you for watching my video. Honestly, I can’t give advise on what you should do, that choice is yours, I only provide information to help you make a good choice for yourself. Tbh I think either one will be cool. Project Management is hard to get into regardless of what course you do anyways. So I suggest you just do the one you’ll find most enjoyable and pass with a good mark. On the side if you want to increase your knowledge to focus on some agile methodologies then you can do that also !

Hey! So you don’t ‘need’ any of theses certs. Technically you’re already working as a PM. The projects that use the Prince 2 that I have done in the past are too rigid. Agile projects are more iterative and more fun. And ultimately cheaper because nothing is ever set in stone. Prince 2 is better for rigid things like building a house. I don’t know what those things are, I just noticed the difference in my projects
@pitolinmotion2 жыл бұрын
Yerp as highlighted in this video. It depends on the type of delivery. That being said, I’ve seen agile projects also completely waste money due to poor governance, lack of direction and definition of the end goal. Some use it as an excuse to just do what they want for how long they want. And no real value is added. But once again. Ultimately it goes down to the environment. Agile is not appropriate for all projects . Rail, construction, large scale IT transformation programmes, IT infrastructure for example .

Hi. I’ve got a question. I’m coming to the end of my time in the military and inevitably going to have to find a new job. I’ll be 30. I’ve got years of management with my troops. Both in and out of the U.K. in nice/not so nice environments. Ive a good understanding in communication as I teach the subject on a regular basis to my team going on certain courses/jobs. I’m thinking project management would be a good route. I’ll be leaving with little qualifications in most areas other than management and leadership qualifications. Management is what I do day to day. I manage people, deployments, specific days, events, peoples careers. It’s fairly dynamic. I think project management would match my skill set I’ve picked up through the military. The forces will provide me to do PRINCE2 before I leave too. What’s your opinion on ex forces moving into project management?
@pitolinmotion2 жыл бұрын
Hiya, I believe you can get into PM from ant occupation. As long as you can clearly communicate how you can leverage your current skills for pm you are on your way. It’s competitive to get in, so just be aware of that. But those that persevere will make it with the right skills and propensity to learn fast

Hey! I don’t advise unless through my consulting services, but think about the delivery style. Although sw based, the overall onboarding process is giving me waterfall vibes. @pitolinmotion4 ай бұрын
Hey there . As an undergrad student your focus should not be on doing additional certifications. You should focus on getting at least a 2.1 in your degree (assuming you study in the UK) - if you are on track for at least a 2.1 or 1st class, then you can apply for graduate PM roles. This is by far the fastest and easiest way to get into PM at that level. They are very competitive as everything in this world. So I would advise trying to get some kind of work experience during summer or even a year placement. It doesn’t have to be in project management, but in some kind of corporate environment. It will help you to stand out in the application process. The certifications are more for post grads, if you are struggling to get a role and need an extra boost. Please note, just because you do the certification doesn’t mean you are guaranteed a role. It is very competitive . Anyone can read and pass an exam, you need to demonstrate that you have the necessary skill set to excel in the role, and the best way you can do this is through early corporate experience . Hope this helps
