Just give them a safe zone in some type of fenced in encampment where they can put their tents in and provide them access to restrooms, clean water and have police patrol that safe zone. I'm sure there are abandon areas in or around pittsburgh that haven't been used in years.

Don't kid yourself. The vast majority of those people are drug addicts. The reason they are on the street is because they can't keep a job and their families kicked them out because they were stealing from them to support their drug habit.

@@felixyusupov7299 You may be reasonably right about the young homeless, but homeless come in all ages and can consist of entire families. @@paulehot I have worked in the homeless community for a decade now. Two big lies that have been pushed are 1. its a housing issue. 2. These are your neighbors who have been priced out of the housing/rental market. Both are largely incorrect. It's 3 issues: Drugs, alcohol and mental health issues. We place these people in free housing units in seattle and they are back on the street within a month or two. And I can guarantee you at least half are not from here. How do I know? After they tell me they are from Seattle I say, "oh cool! What middle school did you go to?" Cracks them every time. Right now its a fentanyl issue. Enforce the laws and ordinances and they will go somewhere else. Or you can make it easy on them and give them free everything and make them immune from the law and they will come as is the case of Portland and Seattle. If you build it they will come. Start putting foot to ass and I promise you this will go away.

Pause all the New Luxury Housing developments and start building housing for the homeless. I live on the North Side and everyday I see two things, More tents and More Luxurious housing. If the tents are a problem for the city of Pittsburgh, shouldn’t providing housing for the homeless be the priority ? So, why isn’t it 🤷🏽♀️

Commenting from LA.... You HAVE the housing in Pittsburgh/greater Pittsburgh to accommodate each and every one of these people many times over. I sure as hell wish we could do that for our homeless here in Southern California. Your vacancy rates are several orders of magnitude higher than ours and your homeless population is a tiny fraction. For your spokesperson to come on this broadcast and say that finding housing for these individuals is a "tall order" is a big cop out and maddeningly disingenuous. Every two or three people you refuse to put in housing, will probably end up here on the streets of Los Angeles where there honestly IS no housing for them!

I already put in a concern with the Allegheny link that the system isn't helping those who are working going to school and homeless with a family. They won't say what their criteria for points go. People are literally going to be flooding the streets sleeping on street corners because there's not enough programs and shelter beds. Its about time they do something about the homeless, but there's nowhere to go at this point. There's no help at all.
