Other than highlight reels and Pittsburgh Dad, I stopped watching football for the most part. It was a process that took a couple years. First there was the kneeling and stuff, then the Redskins became "Football Team". I grew up watching the Skins and some of my best football memories are of Darrell Green, one of maybe a handful of players to play their entire career for one team. (Not counting guys who only last a few years). I mean players with longevity. My sister is a huge Ravens fan, and gradually got me into watching them as a second team for a while. Gotta admit though, some of the legends of all time are Steelers. Every sports fan my age remembers the Mean Joe Green Coke commercial from back in the day. Franco is a legend, of course. Props to Villanueva as well, for not folding to the woke BS as a veteran. Can't mention the NFL and veterans in the same sentence without also paying tribute to the 14 players who lost their lives in combat, the latest of which was Pat Tillman.

Beautiful opening. As a Philly kid and Eagles fan I was blessed with seeing Franco play on the field twice in the 70s. I think he played in the 1976 Exhibition game between the Steelers and Eagles but to be honest the game was held during a Hurricane. Hurricane Belle hit the day of the game along the Jersey shore and to my father's credit he still took me to the game, we both got drenched even sitting underneath the overhang. I did get permission to pee on the car tire in the parking lot although I guess it really didn't matter. The second time was when the Steelers came to The Vet in 1979. Since I didn't grow up in the Pittsburgh area, I don't have any "meeting" Franco stories but even in rural Chester County my brother and I set off fireworks when the Steelers won Super Bowl IX.

I was sitting in the parking lot at the mall waiting on my boyfriend to buy me a surprise Christmas present when I heard on the radio that Franco had passed. The Delgrosso Family ran it and he and his family were close friends to them, well anyway he was shaking hands and signing auto graphs , and I walked up to him after he was done signing his last autograph and he shook my hand and asked me my name and thanked me for being a member of the Steeler family his voice was a soft as his handshake . Such an awesome guy, wished I had a camera to have had a picture taken with him, but back in the 70's we lived for the moments and I will always remember that, That was in 1975.
