You are the only KZbinr I watch putting the Note 9 on full resolution in a battery test which is only fair given Samsung advertised their flagship with QHD resolution but shipping with HD as default hoping the average consumers do not notice. First it's FHD, second it seems like y'all can just see the resolution but can't take into consideration the brightness, it's known the note series have almost the highest brightness out there. Note 8 last here was much brighter than iPhone X, so take that under consideration as well. Only phonebuff as far as I know seemed like doing it.

That tells you that if the Note 9 could run 1300p like the XS, it would beat it again. XS also can't run video higher than 1080p, so that's another handicap against the Note that is not being communicated. The Note 9 is clearly more well optimized.

Let me point out something here. You should had set the Note 9 at FHD+ cause that's so much more battery efficient than the QHD+. By setting it to QHD+ you aren't testing the battery lifes of each phone but rather their optimisations. In my opinion, you should test phones as a package, testing their real potential, rather than what you did here. That's what i would consider as fair. Awesome video anyways as always!

Captainnick88 FX Nah, not really. Changing the resolution adds a meager amount of battery life. The note 10+ has a much larger battery than the iPhone 11 Pro max AND it has a lower resolution, yet still lost. Note 9 gets defeated by XS Max Note 10+ gets crushed by 11 Pro Max.

I have a few recommendations regarding your drain test: 1. The brightness scale is not the same for all phones, therefore I would recommend using a luxmeter (it doesn't have to be the best if you set the settings with the same calibration). 2. Same goes for sound, you could use a decibel meter. 3. I would like to see a second test, where all phones do only one task (like streaming video, making calls or play music), just to get better comparison between the phones.

That's true that Apple has a lot of restrictions compared to Android, which is why I choose to go Android myself, but you're not buying your Note 9 to use it at 720p. No one is. Even when it's at 1440p, with almost 1000 more mAh in its battery, I would still expect the Note 9 to win. 1440p vs 1242p does not effect the battery so much that the iPhone should win with a smaller battery. It's all on the optimization, and Apple's got Samsung beat in that department.

Nice video, love the graphics and the format of the test. If i could make one suggestion though, You should include some kind of standby time in the test, maybe leave it sitting there for a few hours just syncing a few email accounts with whatever apps you used earlier still sitting in task switchers. People don't use their phones for 6-7 hours straight, standby drain needs to be tested has a significant impact in the real world and most phones will be locked on the home screen sitting in someones pocket for several hours a day all up. You could even do it using few half hour - 40 min blocks of it being locked to test how quickly phones go to sleep and conserve battery.

I still think the Note 9 is the winner here. On max resolution it indeed loses to the Iphone, but honestly in real life, when you know you are gonna be having a long day, you have the CHOICE of preserving more battery by lowering the screen resolution. When you are back home you can put the resolution to max again.

Really? I hate the iPhones as much as the other Android-ian, but iPhone in this test is the CLEAR winner. Not only because it finished the last, but because how greatly it performed. iPhone has almost 30% less pixels and about 30% smaller battery, compared to Note 9 ... and STILL performs neck to neck, even better than the Note 9. So if your argument is that Note 9 has bigger (30% larger) battery, it also has 30% more pixels to even out the game with iPhone. Although i agree about your point about having the OPTION to reduce the resolution to preserve battery. Frankly, isn't this why we choose Android phones over iPhones? Well, this is why "I" do. But still, can't let go how good iPhone performed in this test.

Hi really appreciate the content! Next time, could we add in some temperature monitoring thing? After 3 xperia flagships, I finally switched to galaxy a year and half ago. The most surprise feature I got from samsung is how cool (temperature) they are under the daily usage. I think temperature monitoring would mean a lot, and nice to be added to the battery test.

He also forgot the fact that the XZ3's display is around 600 nits in manual 100% brightness (unless Adaptive Brightness is turned on, which also affects the battery life as the proximity sensor is being used the whole time).

Setting all the phones the same brightness percentage doesn't mean a thing. I would suggest getting a proper colorimeter like a Spyder5 to get accurate brightness levels.

Tech Chap said the sony is above the average when he carried out his typical battery drain test. But here, it's upside down. Battery drain depends on what apps reviewer takes to drain the battery 🔋 But I don't trust reviewers at all, when I bought Xz2, I watched some videos on battery drain test and they all said that iPhone X has a better battery life. But my friends having iPhone X couldn't keep their battery above 50% when I have about 60-65% battery in the middle of the day. What a joke

The iPhone has a much lower resolution than the other smartphones, meaning that it has a substantial advantage. He mentioned that the Note 9 gets much better battery life when the resolution is turned down, which by extension means that the iPhone would get much worse battery life if it has the push the same amount of pixels as all of the Android smartphones. The Iphone also doesn't even have a true 2688x1242 resolution, as some of those pixels are blocked by the notch. If you calculate the amount of pixels, then you get the following: Note 9 - 2960*1440=4.262.400 IPhone Max - 2688*1242*0,975=3.255.034 (Assumed that notch fills 2,5% of screen) Hereby the Note 9 has 31% more pixels to push than the iPhone.

Yeah this comment was bad 3 years ago xD. Resolution has close to no affect on the battery life and it is proven by several battery tests by now. Also the resolution on the Note 9 was probably at 1080p as he never showed turning it at 1440p. As you probably know by now every samsung phones comes at 1080p by default out of the box.

What firmware version was used for the test? My Xperia XZ3 has received an update to 52.0.A.3.27. After that the battery life has really improved. I've tested it with the Pc Mark battery benchmark and the new firmware gives more than 1 hour extended battery life compared with the previous firmware version.

The test isn't quite a big deal. The xs can't run 1080p and it does around 1000. The first of the 2 minutes where he swipes up on the iPhone just look at the brightness, around 80-90% yet not 100. Also look at the notifications on Xperia as it hits 15%. Something missing? Yes. The stamina mode and also let's not forget the trilumionous screen and the bravia tech on the Sony. Of course it drains

So if the Iphone supported such a display, rip battery life... £400 difference here for me, rather not for 12 minutes. Also on a day to day usage I feel the note shines and yes you can switch Resolution depending on your needs.

I really think the slightly less amount of pixels that Iphone put in there screen is what really allow the Iphone to last that long. I wonder if someone hooked up a screen with the same rez as the others to the iphone if it will outlast the other phones.
