Be careful when using the blade to get the screen off, you want to get "just the glass" off, not the black thing that is like a circle around it...you'll feel like you are inserting it too high but that's right...

I have some questions. Is it LCD? The original screen of the 3a is OLED, and it looks different from the original. Am I wrong? If i haven't heat gun can I use Hair Phon? What temperature heat gun works?
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
It is an oled. I just name them lcd because that's what people usually search. Either way it's the same process to repair. A hair dryer will work. You honestly don't need a lot of heat for the 3a. But when you're heating it up, you want it hot to the touch.

I have fixed several phones with this method, but the adhesive always seems to let go after a while. Also with the tape not going around the corner the repaired phone will lose the IP68 rating.

what size of tape did you use for this video? Thanks great video
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
I use 1mm, 2mm, and 4mm depending on where I’m putting it. I use the 1mm around the parameter on the 3a. I have links to all 3 in the description.

@arduinouser14822 жыл бұрын
Hi, awesome video, thank you so much for not jumping parts and thank you for linking all of the parts in the video, excellent job. Quick question, why did you put the orange tape on the ridges of the phone and then remove that same tape before you landed the new screen back on? That was the only thing that really confused me.
@JoeDoesStuff2 жыл бұрын
The orange was just the plastic that protected the tapes adhesive. The tape itself was still there.

Thank you for this video. I have to replace my son's 3a screen next week. I've bought a tube of b7000 glue though. Should be okay ? Thanks
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
I don't really recommend using liquid adhesive for the screens. It can bleed through and discolor the screen. The tesa adhesive is pretty cheap. I think $7ish.

@@JoeDoesStuff 2mm be wide enough for pixel 3a ? Thanks
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
Yes it would. Put it along the edge and also a couple of strips under the oled panel. Add a little heat once the new screen is down to set the adhesive.

@@JoeDoesStuff thks for the quick reply. I have already purchased only the front glass for pixel 3. All the videos on youtube show I have to disassemble by opening the back cover. I was hoping it could be done like the pixel 3a from the front side.
@JoeDoesStuff4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I can't be. Well unless you have all the proper equipment. It's cheaper to replace the oled panel along with it. Without the proper equipment you will break the oled panel.

cannot get the little plug from the screen to plug into the board under the little cover with the 2 screws. when the screen came off from the last repair, the plug popped out due the repair man only putting in 1 screw on the retainer. I will fix it correctly this time myself.

oh its defiantly not that easy! I just tried it and when it comes to clipping that tiny clip, its impossible! It just keeps coming apart right away and doesn't seem to stay connected for any length of time. go on finding a tool that fits the tiny star key bolts!
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
I have links to all the tools I use. Walmart also sells a kit that has the star bit. But it does take some finesse. I’ve been doing this for many years.
@RogerPack2 жыл бұрын
Maybe need to seat the connection better first? Or bend the cable so it doesn't resist as much...you can look at the cable for the screen you removed to see how much bend is expected...I guess... :)

This is a video for an LCD replacement I thought you was going to show how to replace the cracked screen not the LCD unit there is a difference the piece of glass what sits on the top of the LCD unit that is the screen the LCD unit is what operates the screen so get your title correct
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
My title is correct. The front glass is called the digitizer. The whole assembly is the screen. I wouldn't recommend trying to replace just the glass. You will ruin the LCD. The glass only parts that are available to buy are for refurbishers to use.
@Gogglelog3 жыл бұрын
@@JoeDoesStuff why do they sell the glass replacements if it's not recommended replacing them ? If just the glass what 99% of the People call the screen is cracked why replace the LCD unit
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
I answered your first question in my previous reply. The screen (digitizer & LCD) are laminated together in the factory, with dust free rooms and $100k+ equipment. The LCD is paper thin. You can literally fold it like a piece of paper. The glass is glued to the lcd. So removing that glue without ruining the lcd takes very precise, expensive equipment. You're more than welcome to try a glass only replacement. With the 3a, you won't break anything else when you mess it up. So afterwards you can still replace the entire screen assembly.
@Gogglelog3 жыл бұрын
@@JoeDoesStuff so basically what you're saying all the retailers are selling people just the glass top ie the screen knowing full well they cannot replace it without spending 100k on equipment
@JoeDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
Yep. You can buy smaller equipment to do it yourself and not spend the 100k. But you're still looking at around $5k.
