Pixel 3a [vs] S10+ Camera Comparison

I decided to test the photo-taking capability of the #SamsungGalaxyS10Plus against the #GooglePixel3a .. the results are ... pretty much ... the same? I mean, sometimes the pixel 3a takes better pictures, and sometimes the galaxy s10 plus takes better photos. It's honestly a matter of preference. You cant go wrong with both cameras.

Mark its not just a preference thing. To put it as simple as it should be, what google did with the pixel 3 series camera is a brilliant equation which puts values for contrast, saturation, vibrance, etc according to what the device consider as better for the scene you are shooting (except when using pro mode), so again, its a software brilliance thing. But if we talk about hardware (sensor, lens, etc) samsung is still the best, and I want you to make a more interesting comparison, how about shooting with the s10 plus VIA google’s cam app? Believe me, not the same. Unfortunately the installation method is available only for snap dragon s10 plus devices 😢😭😭

The 3a won on this one. The picture of the inside of the car with the brown seat was a good example of that. much more detail and vibrant. The Galaxy phone seems like it has a slight haze on some pictures. Night sight. Don't even need to discuss that.

Yeah that picture of inside the car blew me away. The pixel did it so well, you could see every crease of the leather. Fantastic camera. But s10 wins in overall useability cause it has more options, mainly the ultrawide angle. But I'm 100% positive the pixel 4 will have it and it'll be again - the best camera

Dude the Pixel crushed it! In fact, I own the gen 1 Pixel. I just went to check out the s10 in a shop because I'd liked it so much. I took the same frames on both the s10 and my 3 year old (almost) Pixel and most photos, except 1 or 2, were better on my Pixel! I couldn't believe it. I seriously had thought the s10 might have improved enough to do as well or better than the gen 1 Pixel, but there is still no comparison. I'll rather keep my phone for 4-5 years and live with it getting a bit slow than buy a new Samsung. PS - My pixel still runs like a charm. Smooth and reliable. Just gets hot once in a while when charging or heavy use. Once in a week or so I might get an app crash, at the most. So happy with it, still.

The stills on the pixel are def better and the video on the s10+ is above and beyond the pixels. If you want a flagship phone with all the bell and whistles, the s10+ cant be beat. If you just need a great phone with timely software updates and the best point and shoot smartphone camera today, the pixel 3a is a god send

I personally like the s10+ the best. For me the pixel is doing too much processing, it's great for social media but that's it. Hey Mate, Great video again!.. I have to agree that overall the pixal takes more realistic photos.. I own a s10 plus & I have to say I am disappointed with the camera software.. in general photos seem more overexposed & saturated then my previous Note 8?. I prefer the note 8 much more!. I think Samsung were to concerned about brightening photos that image quality got forgotten about.. Maybe because I have the Exynos version it is worse then your Snapdragon one??. Not it mention the battery life sucks!!.. Just another thing when u spoke about the front fliping photos, you can change that in settings when in camera mode so the photo will look like someone else took the photo.. I considering selling my s10 plus & going back to the note 8 for now till maybe note 10 or something else for a change????..

So a quick update, I just got the pixel 3a, someone sold it to me for $170 and I was debating on actually getting the XL version. The Pixel is actually already pretty big for me. And it was definitely worth what I paid, the camera quality is phenomenal and stock Android is awesome. I'm super happy with it coming from the iPhone 7 and you actually helped me in deciding in getting this phone, so thank you.

Weird but the S10+ photos don't even look like they were taken by an S10+ phone. I've seen tons of photos taken by S10 phones and the ones you uploaded look the worst. Every photo you uploaded looks like there is some oily/dirty film on int.

Don't leave it up to personal preference. Which one did better capturing what it looked like in real life? Which ones colors were more accurate? The preference comes in post processing, whereas the original photo should look as close to real life as possible.

@@olekstarasov no mate, I don't experiment with third party apps as they make your phone unstable (app crashes, hamper battery life etc.,). I rely only on app store and samsung apps.

Nice comparison, unbiased. To use it out of the box is ok, but I guess if you'd darkened the s10 permanently a little (pro mode should offer this), the results would have been much more equal except night mode of course. It would have been an additional plus to use a port of the GCam app on the S10 as well, so to see not which app is better but which camera hardware is.

the more i look at those night time shots by all those night modes out there the less i like them :/ sure its nice to capture details and have sharp pictures but the colors are just so fakeish that you would have to postprocess every picture to get a close-to-reallife picture. all in all i would still prefer the pixel in low light but just because of the amount of details it can capture.

Very nice review. I wished my poco had a AMOLED screen to literally see how great both phones performed. But the way you compared it each other was amazing. And the verdict you had was the same as mine too. The pixel 3a just rocked. My favourite was the inside view of that car in which pixel managed give a lot more details than the Samsung flagship. Mark, very nice review, I use the s10+ and luv it. But the 3a has a great camera. Google has offered this great camera for 399.00. Google has definitely done themselves a favor with the price of the 3a. The Nexus6p & 5x had a baby the 3a, yikes. I purchased the 3a as a backup and you know what? mark, you should've tested zoomed in pictures and the video recording capabilities. Apparently the pixels picture taking quality is very good, but its not transferred very well onto the video side of things, whereas as the s10 probably has the best smartphone video camera(s). Amazing video tho👍

The exposure needs to be dialed back a little bit on the Samsung I feel like. Truthfully I like pro mode because I can control all of that which I believe the pixel cannot without a third party app.

I am currently using the pixel 2 xl and the Samsung galaxy s10+. I still like the photos from the one and a half year old pixel better. Samsung photos are nice as long as you don’t zoom into them. The overdone noise reduction in every photo taken in every scene is just not to my taste. Samsung oversharpens the photos to make them look sharp zoomed out. The moment you zoom into them even by 50%, you start to see the water colour painting effect. The pixel phones still retain the most zoom detail among all phone cameras.

Nice review Mark. This is surprising, maybe it's just personal taste, but I prefer the Pixel a lot more in almost all these pics. I like my photos to look as close to the actual scene, if I want to use filters, I have that option. I wish the Pixel camera was on the One+ 7 Pro, for me it'd be the perfect phone. Kinda awkward time with these notches and hole cutouts, personally I'll wait it out cause for people like me, the typical consumer, there's no reason a phone shouldn't last 4-5 years, maybe more. Easy win for the Pixel. It preserves much more texture of the objects, while the Galaxy photos look pretty flat in comparison. The contrast of the Pixel also looks much more natural (with incredible dynamic range, still), the lifted shadows of the Galaxy make many photos look very hazy.

You're all wrong on your terms. When you say exposure, the right term to use is in that instance was "contrast". When you say "warmer white balance", the example had nothing to do with white balance, it had to do with just automatic processing choices that saturated certain colors and micro adjusted other details.

Sometimes the Sky blows out with HDR+ but not with HDR+ enhanced. In some situations it gives you that little bit more dynamic range you need.

I tried it off camera but APK's aren't really reliable. The apk worked for a few days but then randomly stopped working when I needed the camera. So I missed my shot :( From what I saw, it's much better than the standard camera app on the galaxy but still not as good as the pixel. Especially during night shots

I had to watch your video twice to see your point of view and I agree with you the Pixel is better camera. But I am still satisfied with my S10. To fix flipped selfies open the camera app > go to the gear icon > Quick Review > turn this is off. That will fix the selfie issue. As always I enjoyed your video!!

Pixel looks sometimes more artificial, but have that "professional" look. The S10 looks more natural but at the same time more washed-out. I prefer the S10 but with the google camera port.

I'd go with the Pixel. The Galaxy S9 is a very good device with some excellent hardware features that the Pixel doesn't have (better build, water resistance, wireless charging, SD card slot, tele camera lens). BUT, it's already over 1 year old, is painfully slow getting Android updates, the bloat inherent in Samsung phones can cause lag, and its battery life and cameras are inferior to the Pixel's. So unless you really need/want those hardware features, and are OK with the Samsung software/battery/camera limitations, I think the Pixel is a better choice.

I own a pixel. In my experience, it's easier to just brighten up a pixel photo or lift the shadows than editing contrast, sharpness and colour. in post for a samsung. I do a lot of food photography, in bad lighting or awkward indoor lighting and editing is a lot easier due to my pixel. just my opinion though.

Are you sure you cleaned the S10 camera lens?? It looks like there is a smudge to me.

Yep! I carried a microfiber glasses cleaning cloth. I think that effect is due to the sun shining onto the lens. Maybe the pixel has better coating 😮

@@DRIVECLUBistimelessPS4 The 2XL may have better build quality, water resistance, Visual Core, and a just slightly faster SoC, but there are downsides aplenty. That controversial (and often faulty) LG p-OLED display was a non-starter for me from the get go. The Pixel 3aXL not only has a better, Samsung screen, it also has a better GPU, a bigger battery, and a headphone jack. And yes, the 3aXL will get at least one more extra year of Android updates !
