There is a beauty mode integrated in the stock camera app (access by swiping down) - but just on the front camera. So if one feels the selfies have too much detail, then they can use this mode. I vastly prefer it this way compared to how companies like Samsung do it. They force shitty wax-paintings on you. I much rather have a true-to-life and detailed image.

@@ostaps3464 Afaik, Google Camera does by default put the "Face Retouching" to Natural mode instead of having it off out of the box which kinda oversharpens the image a bit. The sharpening we see here is mostly with the default settings so the Natural Retouching is probably enabled, yes.

Megatron EX1127 ok we both watched the same video with the same samples and supersaf literally showing where the pixel fell short in the back camera video department. It was fairly clean but the stabilization was bad because it overcorrected too much which looks unnatural.

@@dennis4088 pixel does have all this also, probably biggest downside is plastic body, but if you put phone in case, it doesn't matter so much. Probably OS updates won't be for 5 years, but i don't care much, i don't use same phone for 5 years, so i will be comfortable enough with 2-3 years of updates. And the price makes big difference. 5.8" OLED for $350 with google vanilla software - I'll take it. 4.7" IPS for $400 - meh. It's compact, but display size is too small. And I can't believe they put high performance CPU but the phone cant do a night mode photography. For $400 Apple gives not to much.

Thanks mate for putting such a detailed video together for us! I had the Pixel 3a but due to an unfortunate drop and completely destroying of the screen, I went ahead and purchased the IPhone SE. I love the phone but miss the Night Mode though since I have purchased the “NeuralCam” and “ProCam7” apps for the apps store, I can’t complain anymore lol. I think the 4K video at 60fps is stunning. For a $400 dollar phone I think it’s bang for the buck. Might consider the Pixel 5 at some point but for right now, I’ll stay the course with my SE.

My thought process when it comes to the colors, with the crisp photos on the Pixel you can brighten the image afterwards and have a great photo. With the SE it's significantly harder to lower the brightness and keep a good looking photo. I feel like it really comes down if you want to take the couple of seconds per photo to tweak the brightness or not.

I'd definitely chose the Pixel any day. Btw you can enable the skin smoothing feature on the Pixel if you don't like the very sharp look it has, so it's not really a problem. The portrait mode on the front camera was definitely better on the iPhone though!

The Pixel 4a _also_ has face smoothing in portrait mode - None/Natural/Smooth, you just need to swipe down for options.

Personally I prefer the SE's exposure and color, but I definitely prefer all of the features like the night light mode and portrait mode on the Pixel, plus I can just take the 10 seconds to toss on a quick filter on the pixels photos. Overall especially with the far nicer look of the pixel I would prefer the 4a, the screen is 1.1 inches larger, and also it doesn't have a glass back which means you wont be having to pay apple hundreds of dollars to replace it, or anybody anything to replace it. Plus, android is just my personal preference over IOS.

Australia: 4a: $599 SE: $829 (128GB) A $230 difference (for Australians that is) and you’ll have a phone that is supported for longer. If you are okay with upgrading your phone more frequently and saving your $230 in the short term it is logical to factor in this saving to your phone you will purchase in at least 3 years time (length of time google have stated they will support). The build materials of the SE are very nice, the camera for video is fantastic and in my opinion the A13 Bionic chip is a must have for current smartphones. It seems for stills the Pixel takes the lead but for video I personally prefer the SE I wish anyone reading this good luck in your purchasing :)

You can't do gaming well in iphone se 'cause it's poor battery life and tiny screen inspite of having a powerful chipset ..so go for pixel(for camera and one of the best softwares)..😊 Love From india💓..

A13 is the processor used in iphone 11, 11 pro then blah blah. And 730g in which g stands for graphics, means it will be more graphic ready. A13 will recieve updates for 5-6 years(MKBHD said) and 4a will receive support for 2 years. For processor I'd go with iPhone se because it is a beast. 730g will do your job but you will notice some lags and jitters.

Hi, great review. However one thing that’s important to me is how well the camera captures moving images. I work with rescue dogs and often have to take pictures of them running around at high speed. I would love to see how well different phones do at capturing things moving at speed.
