@@chadeli8271 as an owner of an S21 Ultra and former owner of a Pixel 2 XL, I can say for sure Samsung has NOT overtaken Google. The dynamic range is extremely inconsistent (HDR works when it wants and not in a good way,) portrait mode has no details at all aside from perfect lighting, and it simply can't take pictures of moving subjects again if not in perfect lighting.

I’m a pixel 6 Pro user and I hope Google still were the king of camera but it’s not. There are a bunch of camera comparisons on KZbin which indicates googles portrait failure, oversharpening, enormous noise in low light. For sure sometimes I can take 10/10 pic but it’s extremely inconsistent. The reason I keep it is simple and smooth pixel UI, otherwise I’d sell it and keep my vivo x70 pp

Wow, the 5a really held its own! I had the 5a for a couple weeks and really liked it, especially the metal frame. I returned it for the Pixel 6, but for issues that ended up being caused by the carrier. I am happier overall with the 6, but I do miss that metal frame/body.

Great comparison, thank you. I wish that Google would make a pixel phone with the three camera set up that isn't truly massive. I would upgrade from my 4a for the extra cameras, in particular the 4x telephoto, but I just don't want to walk around with that giant brick. Not a fan of curved screens either. After using Android exclusively since my first smartphone, I'm finally considering an iPhone so I can get the 3 camera setup in a pocketable size.

Sony Xperia 5 iii would be compact with 4 camera focal length. Bit taller than a mini but about same width and the mini only has 2 camera's without optical zoom. But Sony is not available everywhere and has pro/cons compared to Google (+headphone jack+SD, -no wireless charging, -dimmer screen, no notch and not curved, more natural photo processing...).

The pixel 5a sensor was the same sensor used in the prior generations, they did say their computational photography works better with a 12mp but that said it will start working a lot better eventually with the new 50mp. Overall it was close but the 6 pro shots were well balanced.

Google Pixel 6 camera capturing more light due to bigger sensors. However, there differences are minor and unnoticeable by quick glance at it. I guess I'm staying with my Pixel 5 for at least few years.

Think this proves smartphone cameras have reached their limit. Barely any improvement here over the Pixel 5a, despite updated hardware. In fact, I think the Pixel 5a looked better in a lot of instances.

Sony has a 1-inch sensor (world's largest). Maybe Google will use it in next gen Pixel and make a noticeable difference. Here in Canada we don't even have the Pixel 5a, but I am happy with my Pixel 3a.

TBH I am seeing a big difference in my Pixel 5 vs 6 Pro - especially when taking a picture of kids, but I must say, I am not fan of the warmer, more contrasty look the new hardware, on current firmware, produces - a bit too "Samsungy" for my taste. Too bad, even through I have two days off, there will be constant rain, so I am not able to just ride a few kilometres and take a bunch of photos :( edit: Those warmer tones might be simply due to current white balance inconsistency. After all, they were using the old hardware for ages and used probably 101% of that hardware potential.

@@n2t460 They are cropping that sensor to 60%. So ... 1/1,31" sensor is actually bigger than "1" Sony" in Pro I. Other brands are using 1" sensors as well (Sharp something), but they are using the whole sensor.

Very useful comparison, Nick. The 5a holds up really well in most situations (apart from the zoom and the selfie camera of course). As the owner of a Pixel 4a 5g, I feel fully justified in holding on to it for a long while yet! Pixel 7 or even later? Maybe. Well glad I watched this..I have the 5A and love it but orders the 6Pro..mainly for the big improvement in camera especially video ..maybe it's just my old eyes but in many of these comparisons the 5A was similar or in some cases better than the 6 Pro. Except for zoom. time to cancel the 6P....👍

Why are people harping on the issues that the P6P is having now, I'm confident that most if not ALL of these issues with cameras, fingerprint scanner, battery etc etc WILL be rectified via OTA updates and adaptations due to machine learning in the next couple of weeks. Give Google till end of November this will be one of the best phones of this year well into next year when it's fully optimized. Have faith. BTW excellent work here Bro. New subscriber.

This video inspired me to get a refurbished 5a. I looked back though my photos a realized my 4a 5g just did better with big sky landscapes than my 6 did. This video confirmed that. I think the natural/muted color reproduction and 16mp ultra wide created a very specific use case. In every other way the 6 was better.

I finally figured out the Pixel 6 camera conundrum I think: I was getting a marked "red shift" with the 6, and my wife's be 5a pics consistently looked better, to the point I was ready to trade the 6 for a 5a. But it's the "temperature" setting that's different on the 6. You can make pics cooler (blue shift) or warmer (red shift). I didn't realize this until I watched numerous comparison videos, and this makes all the difference. Now, when adjusted correctly, I can see a clear difference in the Pixel 6 pics vs. the 5. The 6 runs smooth, but "ok Google" has crashed a few times...

Keep in mind that this is a brand new phone with brand new camera hardware. They had 4 years to build on their previous camara platform. I'm sure it'll improve with time and more iterations. The 6/6Pro are starting out at basically the same quality as the 5, except that the 6 is on the ground floor and the 5 is at the very top of the building.

6 nails colors more consistently (dynamic range especially, particularly avoiding blowing out or too dark of shadows), but needs a little more tuning to make reds pop.

I think the P6 is better, but not by a lot. What is a big difference is the price! P6 pro is twice the cost of the P5a! If camera quality is your biggest factor, I just don't think the P6 pro is worth it. And if you like small phones maybe find a good condition Pixel 5, they should be cheap now.

Yes, HDR+ is now programmed within tensor, instead of enabled thru the Pixel visual/Neural core.

It's like that on any Android phone. Apple seems to be the only company that's really nailed down smooth zooming. Samsung and OnePlus phones also lag terribly when you zoom.

I like more contrast by 5a and shadows are shadows. 6pro lifts up the shadows bit too much for my liking and whole pictures become less pleasing to the eye as all parts of the photos have almost equal lighting. I don’t like both front cameras bcos they go overboard with processing

Googles own computational photography laughing at its own newer hardware there. I see the lowlight shots on the 5a ultra wide are still really noisy and horrible in low light though, that was the first thing i noticed swapping from a P5 to a P6P, the low light ultra wide performance is much improved.

awful HDR on pixel 6. way too agressive. sometimes it made the shadows dissapear what the fuck? google coded while drunk or what? i bet they didnt adjust the hdr for that sensor that gets 2.5x more light and u get this mess. main sensor photos the older pixel was better due the contrast. rest the pixel 6

I disagree... I like my shadows well lifted because if I want I can add more contrast later. On the contrary, I can't get back shadow information that was lost when capturing.

It's because the software is holding the hardware back. A 50 mega should be more redefined than the 5a 12. The software on the 6 is still geared towards the old phones. Hopefully with software updates this changes.
