The first one is not anti-aliasing, it is simply that the blouse is transparent, and you can realize that because only the blouse has that effect, which by the way is very well achieved. It gives texture without the use of exaggerated shadows and that is difficult in pixelart

I just started pixel and I follow your pixel art tutorial basics. As a practice I created a bench. And the bench before you modify it was the same thing I did and It does not look right. Its hard for first timer to draw something where it has depth. Sure it is easy to imagine but drawing it is so damn hard. Im glad you did this critique. Thanks

For the first piece, it mostly lack of contrast. Contrast will not remove the smoothness of the piece, it will make each element pop out better visually. Contrast still exist in pastel colors, as contrary to what some elitists would claim... Side note: About the "outline everything" problem alot of beginners have, it often come from how much pixel communities bash anyone "not respecting limitations" even on good pieces of pixelart. Beginners needs freedom to explore their style and find their own, you can't realise what a specific limited style gives you if you don't even know why you're limiting yourself. That's how we end up with low contrast, low color count, usually too small to explore interesting shapes, and frustration. Heck, some guys draw better than me and don't even know what an analogous color sheme is, stuck in boring "same hue shades" because they were taught to limit themselves to this point of *not even trying* to mix hues. A red's a red and can't possibly use purples or oranges shades in their mind, closed by other people constant reminder of that if you're not limiting yourself you're "cheating". Yes I'm a salty artist who's exausted by how people view pixelart. Pieces being rejected because "too complex" or using "too many colors" (not as 50 shades per color but having a background and different objects using other color palettes) are ust a sign of jealousy. On a mockup piece, you don't count the overall colors to define limitations, you count colors per objects because the mockup isn't a single sprite, it's a collection of sprites. People need to understand how things works before bashing newbies and closing doors to their creativity. That's really harmful to aspiring artist's minds...

I don’t think newer artist know it’s all about trying to make your object appear 3D forget trying to make the object look like what you think the shape is it’s about making that shape appear to have form and pop in 3D it’s pretty hard.

I'm pretty sure the first one isn't anti-aliased, it's meant to be a fine mesh top which you can see-through, hence why it's only present on the top area and why it's a purple colour.
