Pixel Grip Vertax D12 for D800/D800E unboxing and review

Really useful, as there are quite a few brands making these, at least now we know which one is good. :) Luc is this the same brand as the pixel battery you reviewed last year?

I liked this review. I'm a loyal Nikon shooter I like to spend my money wisely which includes buying Nikon products when they are the best option. The price on the MB-D12 is just outrageous. Lately, I've become a fan of Samyang as well. Beautiful products. I will buy some Samyang this year too. thanks.

I have this argument with people all the time - I agree, it's third party, not fake. Can't stand why people do this with batteries and grips - yet not with lenses I have this same grip, and it does the job nicely. Mine leaves a tiny gap on the side by the 'OK' button, but it's snug fit all around besides that one side. I have attached my BR-sport strap to the grip, with D800 + 24-70 attached too. No worries.

It is a third party grip, like a flash unit, Nikon make flash units, do Metz say it is a fake? Move items out of the way after discussion. The box is in the way, nice inserts but they are out of focus and too dark. Nice review though, thanks.

I hope you'll answer my question, i just bought it. i have a problem with it, when I put 8AA power-ex battery, it doesn't work with those battery, the camera power-off by-itself.. so I have to take out the grip and put it back again to power on the camera. How is your experience with it? you have a year experience with it now, how its working with you now? Thanx

The battery grip is tested to work with 8 x 1900ma batteries like the white eneloops.

It's not so much that the third party parts like this are "cheap," it's that the Nikon accessories are ridiculously expensive.

I like this review. I agree, they are all 3rd party products, not fake. That is silly. Almost as silly as paying $400 for a battery grip. I will buy this one, instead. I've also become a fan recently of Samyang. I'm looking forward to buying some Samyang lenses this year too. thanks.

Avoid this grip at all costs. I received mine today. It freezes my d800 and it cannot be used. I am returning it Asap. It only works when the lock dial is in lock position which means that you can use no buttons on the grip.

Pixel Vertax grips are awful. I've had one for the D7000. Very poor quality, and lots of problems with it. On the other hand, I agree that the price on the originl Nikon MB-d17 is just outrageous ! I don't recommend anyone getting a Pixel Vertax. They are a waste of money
