We put on dog soothing videos when we go out and leave our dog by herself. Then we have a camera we can talk to her when we are out. Our dog loves movies with dogs in it, and helps her feel less lonely but I still get great big kisses when we come home. My husband gets them too! What did we do before cell phones and the internet?

Their birb brains don't have the concept of personal space.. and they treat each others like objects to interact, to extract a response from.
@godslaughter4 жыл бұрын
It is a part of their social behaviour and culture, it's a way for them to communicate with others. They do have hands but they're a part of their wings and they don't use them for social interactions like we do. And Jason, I hope that was a joke because birds aren't dumb, as a matter of fact, psittacines (parrots) are sapient like we are. They have full understanding of social concepts and behaviour because they evolved high social intelligence and have feet and a mouth that can be used to manipulate objects. Just because it is strange to a human doesn't mean it's strange to a parrot because cultures amongst social animals differ.

Here's an interesting thing. I have two female budgies and both are very responsive to bird sounds. They literally drop what they're doing the moment they hear a chirp and Iris will start singing too, she's very vocal and clever with her singing, while Dawn will sing as much as she can, then fly around non stop However, when males speak or make other human sounds like kissing noises, it doesn't evoke a responce, it's like they can't tell apart human and budgie speech.

@KiwiandPixel4 жыл бұрын
That's why. They're social animals. If you keep a single bird (which isn't allowed in some countries, actually), you need to spend a LOT of time socializing with them because you are their "flock."

Could you please give me some advice? My kids gave a new parakeet to me a month ago and he’s had a couple frightening experiences and is still nervous when I approach the cage; runs to the other side. I open his cage and he won’t fly out. I had one in the late 1970s for 7 years and it had about a 50 word vocabulary including, Merry Christmas Everybody, Kiss me please while throwing his head back while on my shoulder, Be my Valentine,tine,tine,tine… and many more. What do you suggest I do to tame Buddy?

How do they learn to speak? Is it just over time they repeat the words they hear the most or is it possible they may never learn? I currently have a 4-5month old green jelly bean and he's hardly vocal at all and when he is it's just a basic "weep" sound or an extremely quiet little "doot doot" sound.
