Let's read Pixel! Easter's issue of April 1990 of this popular Greek magazine and last of my favourite issues. Featuring the long awaited Sam Coupé, new columns focusing on games and a comparison of the market's best joysticks. Finally, there's also a gift for Easter: a small booklet with solutions to 12 adventure games. Unfortunately, it got lost in April 1990 during Easter vacations, never to be found again.
REM ** CONTENTS **
00:00 Introduction
00:17 Nice Cover with the beautiful Sam Coupé, posing together with its ancestor.
01:19 Contents
01:35 "Pixel's News", by editor in chief Ch. Kyriakos, with the usual summary of the issue's contents
01:54 "Software Flash". A new section dedicated to games which in essence replaces "Coming Soon". Very good titles such as Lost Patrol, Midwinter and Space Ace, while we also find out what each company is up to, through the "Software News" column
03:33 "Facts Rumours Comments". The latest news of the market with many articles on CD ROMs, the new consoles and the new Amigas. That motorcycle coin-op had caught my attention and I saw it at the arcade a year later, but I didn't feel like playing.
04:37 "London Calling" by the well known correspondent V. Konstantinou, with the usual satisfactory roasting of developments and personalities (poor uncle) from the English market. I can still remember the story about Bill Gates.
05:20 "First Steps" with answers to the readers' technical questions
05:31 "Test" of the Sam Coupé by K. Vassilakis. A noteworthy 8bit machine, which didn't find its place in the market. I'd left this one for later, to read it at the village during the holidays. I had a nice sunny spot by the garden for reading this magazine in the afternoons.
07:04 "Feature" Joysticks. The best sticks on the market by D. Paulis. Of course, the word's best couldn't be missing! That is, the Greek Super 8+, Starfighter 2000 and Elite.
08:21 "Software File" by K. Vassilakis, with the best racers for aspiring motorcyclists!
11:16 "Software Review" with among others, the splendid TV Sports Basketball and the good looking Ivanhoe. I can remember that I also liked The Munsters' graphics when I looked at the screenshots.
13:48 "Top 20" with Batman and Robocop at the top
14:10 "Special Review" Player Manager by A. Lekopoulos. An improved Kick Off for football and strategy game lovers. I read that review in Athens, when I'd returned from the vacations. I guess I didn't care as much, though it was a nice game after all.
15:28 "Update". Honouring the Amstrad this month, with Operation Thunderbolt, Rick Dangerous and Beach Volley
16:13 "With a glimpse". Renewed, with less games but longer reviews. My glimpse had fallen on Onslaught, Galaxy Force and Dragon Spirit
17:46 "Adventure" with the extraordinary Future Wars, by A. Tsourinakis. I thought the graphics were incredible looking at the screenshots, but when I finally played it, it surpassed my expectations.
18:45 "Adventure S.O.S." A. Tsourinakis responds to readers' letters, while also publishing the solution to Spiderman
19:13. "Hints 'n' Tips". A. Lekopoulos, obviously influenced by musical developments, gives the start signal in the rhythm of Hip Hop. I can still remember the Dungeon Master's hints!
19:49 "Hyper View" with Chaos Strikes Back by A. Terzopoulos. The preview left a good impression but I didn't play it enough in the end, as opposed to Dungeon Master which I've finished.
20:40 "Peek and Poke" with routines for the CPC, ZX, CBM και ST. Amstrad's Shake Sort had some problems but they're easy to fix.
24:04 "Hyper View" with the legendary Blood Money by G. Kyparissis
24:52 "Interventions", with infinite lives by the mag's hackers. The Commodore's cheat crashed but it was just a minor bug in one of the pokes, so I fixed it for you. The ST's cheat wasn't printed in full, so some data lines are missing. It should be easy to fix, but I'd already spent over a month in making the video, so I was a bit tired.
28:45 This month's "Correspondence"
29:04 "Classifieds"
29:38 April's "Scores and Scorers"
29:55 "High Tech Boutique"
30:18 "Gamers' Competition"
30:34 «Arcade». I had noticed SCI, because of Chase HQ, but never came across it at the arcades
31:13 "Hi Tech" by D. Paulis. I'd found the video printer and the 3D camera interesting
31:29 "Video Review". G. Kyparissis suggests two horror films, for cold blooded readers
32:03 "Consoles Review". A new section dedicated to consoles with two games for the Sega Master System by D. Asimakopoulos.
32:38 Back cover and ending
