Do you have the chance and open a nefx file in Capture One? would be interesting to see if the same issues are there too

I stopped using CaptureOne because they force you to upgrade with every new camera purchase. Otherwise it’s great for raw conversion and I’d be curious to see how it handles these files.

I get artifacts with any movement in the pixel shift merged image.

Yes and unfortunately that limits the applications that we can use Pixel Shift for. I’d hope it would be more forgiving

@@ZacharyLaiPhotography I wonder if it works better in black and white. The color artifacts can go away, but I'm not sure about that curved lines in the sky

@@nitni0002 The color artefacts do have lined patterns, and those patterns will still be visible. I've experimented with faster shutter speeds (not in this video) and it works a lot better

Thanks for the video! Is there anything stopping you from using fast shutter speeds for pixel-shift images? I noticed that you used 8 seconds, presumably to blur the water? Well, ignoring pixel-shift options completely, people and things will obviously smudge as they move. Since this, along with the ZF, is Nikon’s first attempt at merging images, I expect artefacts to reduce in firmware updates. I’d strongly suggest that you shoot a “safety image” which can be used to steal certain portions from, where necessary.

Fast shutter speeds will work definitely! The thing is that I do a lot of long exposure photography, and I wanted to see if pixel shift will work out for what I do the most. In the end I found it really easy to clone out the people moving, and the smudges in the sky isn't really that obvious for images posted on social media. Definitely will not work for printed images though.@@dominiclester3232

I thought to use pixel shift you needed little or no movement in the image you are shooting. Stacking images of 8seconds per image in the scene you are using I wouldnt expect it to work that’s a lot of movement for a period of at least 64 secs and you are using a 2sec delay between each image. Why no retry using a faster shutter speed.

A faster exposure time will work definitely, but since I do a lot of long exposure photography, I wanted to test and see how far it'll go.

hi very interesting I'm currently using the Z6ii but are thinking about a Z8 or 6iii upgrade but how would that 32 image pixel shift looks like in B&W would that work
@ZacharyLaiPhotography

I think it’s fine to just minimize using pixel shift where there’s movement and clone out any affected parts. As for Z 8 or Z 6iii, the official announcement comes in about 24 hours from this comment so we might as well wait and see.

Really enjoyed your video. May I ask where you focussed for your first shot as you have a steel "bracket" in the foreground very close to your camera. Did you get th 2:08 e whole shot in focus?
@ZacharyLaiPhotography

Usually for images like these I'll shot one shot focused on foreground object, and at least one more shot focused on the background, and focus stack them in Photoshop so it's in focus across the image. For this however I wanted to concentrate on pixel shift so no focus stacking. In this situation, I'd focus slightly behind the foreground subject, having a narrow aperture for max depth of field, and bearing in mind that focus depth is always 1/3 in front and 2/3s behind for maximum hyperfocal distance.

Evaluated the Pixel shift on my Z8 and Z 24-120 with Landscape (forest) on tripod (32 Frames) The result disaster the trees and sky blurring maybe can be good for product Photography

If you want to get better results on the Pixel Shift, you should use a very solid heavy tripod, not this "baby", which is certainly one of the reasons for your dissatisfaction with the results you got. Besides, do a test with 32 photos and then you will see the difference if you keep some rules. Besides, I don't think Lightroom is an outstanding program. Try to develop it further in capture one. Nevertheless, the movement of water and not da can cause some problems but this can be minimized in posproblems but this can be minimized in post production. Greetings

I’ve done many long exposure shots with the LeoFoto MT-04, it’s rock solid. The problems encountered in with pixel shift only appears with moving elements so I don’t think the tripod is the issue. I do have a test with 32 shots in the video, with 1/3s and 13s exposure time tested. 😉 Also, I stopped using CaptureOne since they expect their customers to pay for a new version with every new camera.
