Hi Zachary. I finally bought the MT-03+MB20 option. Just one question--what's the size of the allen screws used on the MT-03 so that I'll know what allen screwdriver size I need to buy to tighten its screws should it loosens over time. Thank you.
@BogdanNYou20 күн бұрын
it they were the same price, which one would you choose: 1.4 or 1.8 ? I really don't know if the 1.8 s is that much better in fringing and sharpness that i should give up that 1.4 aperture.
@ZacharyLaiPhotography19 күн бұрын
I would go for the 1.8 S. Better weather sealing, slight increase in sharpness beats the 1.4 wide aperture which is seldom used at 1.4 anyway
@comment_below9 күн бұрын
pretty stupid @nikonusa forces you to choose like that
@prometheuslg21 күн бұрын
I can confirm the shortcomings of the 35 1.4 z lens compared to the Sigma. It is not as sharp. the fringing is clearly there, but it also exists in the sigma. However, the Nikon is not that far off (it is sharper than most lenses) and has a very unique character, especially for portraits. With the added weight of the ftz adapter, the sigma is twice the weight. It is heavier than the nikon Z7II. I ended up trading the Sigma and bought the Nikon. I don't really regret it as I have no more hesitation when it comes to carrying the camera and a few lenses, even if the sigma was my most used lens for a very long time.
@ZacharyLaiPhotography21 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing an alternative point of view of someone who has also used the sigma 👍🏼 One thing I didn’t mention in the video is that I actually took this new lens out for a paid shoot, and was less than satisfied. The lack of sharpness really shows when compounded with high iso situations. It may look fine in ideal scenarios, but not so in challenging situations.

Great review, really nice tripod! Would be interesting to see how it compares to the Leofoto LS-223c
@ZacharyLaiPhotographyАй бұрын
To be frank I'm not sure about the purpose of the LS-223c range. Either you get a mini tripod like the MT-04, light, compact, agile, can be used to hang on uneven surfaces like a railing, or you get a full size tripod. The LS-223c is not as compact, not as agile as a mini tripod, and not as tall as a full size tripod. It probably fulfils a very specific niche but I'd struggle to find a use-case for it in my line of work.
@Psychonaut999Ай бұрын
@@ZacharyLaiPhotography thank you! Very valid points! I think the LS-223c is great for macros, but I agree, most of that could be done with the MT-04 as well

I recently purchased this lens (just arrived yesterday) and I've been testing it out in various lighting conditions and along the focal range as various shutter speeds/apertures and so far I'm not super excited about the images I'm getting. They don't have the sharpness I'm looking for - even at the center at a single focus point. Any chance I just didn't get a great lens?
@ZacharyLaiPhotographyАй бұрын
No way this lens isn’t sharp at center. Lots of factors come into play when it comes to sharpness. Shutter speed, iso, camera movement, subject movement. Was the camera on a tripod? Any exposure delay or remote timer used? Which AF mode was it in? Which apertures was it in? Which camera body was it in and how much are you zooming in (to check sharpness in post)? If tested properly, then maybe it’s a lemon 😕
@r2325Ай бұрын
@@ZacharyLaiPhotography I tested on and off tripod on my Z6III, from 1/2 to 1/125 second at ISOs from 100-10000, mostly narrow apertures because I wanted deep depth of field and in both sunny and indoor conditions. All subjects were either very stationary (indoor/no movement) to little if any movement (flowers/trees/the house). AF mode was single point. I'll admit I didn't try exposure delay/remote timer because I thought I would be at least 'close enough' to get the idea. I would be much more likely to believe it was me if I didn't take some of the same shots in the same conditions with my 24-120 F4 and even at 24mm got night and day different results. Regarding zoom, I checked anywhere from 100 to 300 just to compare to my24-120. I might try another one just to confirm I didn't get a dud because I really like the weight/size of it for travel.
@ZacharyLaiPhotographyАй бұрын
@@r2325 Sounds like you did a lot of testing. I also have personal experience where 2 copies of the same lens had different results so it could be a lemon, though if you ask Nikon directly and they can't find a defect they'll usually say it's within tolerance. Try an exchange if you can.

Hi Zachary. Thanks for this review. Can you help me clarify about those screw thread sizes found on the legs and ball head bases of BOTH the MT-03 and MT-04? • The MT-03 Tripod base male screw thread size is 1/4" while the MT-04's is 3/8." • The MT-03's tripod legs female screw threads size is 1/4" and the MT-04's also 1/4." Are these the correct specifications? I tried to look for it everywhere on the net and I'm astounded as not one can just point them out and say, “THIS SCREW THREAD IS 1/4"," etc. etc. Thank You.
@ZacharyLaiPhotography2 ай бұрын
I compared my MT-03 and 04 to check this. MT-03 has 1/4" which connects to the base of the LH-25 ballhead which is 3/8". It came with a step-up adapter so that it'll fit. For the MT-04, it's already 3/8" to connect to the ballhead. Both the MT-03 and MT04 accessory sockets along their legs are 1/4". This fits with Leofoto's own extension arms. Hope that helps.
@nathanielngosy2 ай бұрын
@@ZacharyLaiPhotography Yes! Thanks. I'm still contemplating which is more worth it as the MT-04 is quite heavy on the pocket especially with the LH-30 ball head. Now, if only someone could give a comprehensive ENGLISH language review of the Leofoto LY-224C as I couldn't find one anywhere whether KZbin or from a website. I'm looking for an excellent Travel Tripod that's light and motivates me to bring it as my last tripod, the great Leofoto LX-254CT+XB-32, just gathered dust which was rarely used. Good thing I got to sell it at a decent price. BUT I do often bring a mini- /table- tripod so sometimes I think such would be a better investment for the long term.
