You had endless troops, literally blanketing the map. Nice strategy of quantity over quality.

Your sally out wasted time on the clock. Distracted the attackers doing some damage. When your units inside the city counter attacked your numbers came into play. The elephant charge dove them back and aloud you to reorganize your line. Great battle. They never had the time to win.

It was not failed, it was GENIUS. At least in a strategic point of view, if you exploited the advantadge in the right way. What do People use militias for? Taking the hits, wasting enemy ammo, and if they didn't have the meatshields, they would act with great caution, because they aren't sending meatshields(those didn't reach the walls), they are sending the elite as first wave. They don't wanna lose it, so they will take a lot of time before making a move. In that time you can send reinforcements to your allies, since your front is inactive, so you shall outnumber the foes on one front(preferably the center) and divide their armies so 3 of ur armies anihilate the remaining 2 enemy armies while you come back for that no-militia army before they can react(you are inside of the fort so you are quicker than them) and crush those before aiding the 3 armies to your back.

So it seems that hovering over a unit will tell you if the general is dead where it says their morale state. I saw a couple factions say their general was dead near the end of the fight.

For me, it's more fun because I can actually see where I not only would *claim* to make better plays, but actually *could* make better plays. Like a pro footballer commenting on football, it's interesting for me, as an experienced Total War player, to watch these battles from a position of being pretty good at them myself.

To do Viscera Cleanup Detail for Total War you'd need a fleet of bulldozers and zambonis

it's impressive that the defenders win this battle, after their charge outside the wall failure, but they have good factions (Kush and iberians). I think thats type of ambushs and sorprise attacks, are only more effective in Shogun 2 total war, because is much unpredictable to know what units the enemy use in a siege, no matter if is a player of shogun classic or the Fall of the Samurai.

It honestly looks like the arrow towers won it for the defenders at that one gate. The towers were active for the entire battle, and were just chipping away at the attackers the entire time.

Apollo will this tactic work? 1. Destroy all battering rams/Siege tower and catapults 2. have 2 units of pikes at a gate hidden 3. have the enemies go to the gate and when they ger\t close get the pike at the gate in formation 4. Send 2 units of archer to the pikemen and kill the enemy

if you could sally out and be able to burn down / destroy any siege equipment that are unmanned or have no troops by them (like a gate or arrow tower) as that was the main goal of sallying out during a battle.

Seems to me that Rome favors numbers. Yeah, if you use your elites just right and avoid skirmishers (who are always focusing on 'elite troops') while you're holding them in reserve and don't miss a cav charge either and you don't get decimated by artillery, and you can get them in there at the right time, things can go brilliantly. Or you can overwhelm them with numbers, giving them little chance to focus on one particularly dangerous group and recognize that fresh infantry beats exhausted, half depleted elite units. Basically, always bring 100% club levy.

It's a common tactic most better players use in siege battles. You bring siege then leave it lined up infront of your infantry and troops as they advance so you take less casualties from towers.
