​@@alexman378 Yes, and "no religions" ideologies are very often more bloodthirsty than religions. For example - the ideology of Red Khmers. Or Bolsheviks. My grandfather, the former war prisoner was escaping from the Soviet Union (more precisely, the city of Kazan) to the West in 1921 and was hiding on his road to freedom. One time he hid near a village somewhere in the plains of western Russia. It was the time of the peasant's uprising in the Tambov Country/Gubernia against the contributions and robbery of soviet government representatives. And to this village came the Red Army. Soldiers murdered all - men, women, children, elderly people. My grandfather was lucky. As the fugitive, he was hiding in a pile of hay outside the village and when he saw the massacre, he ran away to the nearby forest. Some of these village people may have played a part in the mutiny. But every one of them? Children too? I don't think so! But someone gave the order: "To kill them all!" All of them were murdered "in the name of progress and reason" and not religion! Dozens, if not hundreds of millions of people died in XX century in the name of ideologies. Most often in the ideologies that were planning the end of wars, misfortunes, and the common happiness for people.

@ Absolutely. Thats a direct quote. People think Fight Club is about fighting but it isn't. "Memento Mori" is a major theme right out of the gate. The nature of his job, the terminal illness support groups. The fighting is just another way of dealing with mortality head on, as is the accident scene. The book and the movie are about old ways, old masculine values, old religion and how danger and pessimism are ironically the most positive ways to celebrate life. We have come to live in an era of senseless clinging and hope, and Palahniuk is commenting on how this is not what men are built for. For those of us making the transition into adulthood when it came out we could feel the truth in this taboo opposition, just a decade before Classical masculinity was snuffed out for good by society. Obviously, a constant death wish is no way to go through life, but in the face of a society sick and paralyzed with fear and anxiety, letting go of life is the first step to wellness.

Guess if everyone's sharing their memories of where they first found this masterpiece of a cover, here's mine... Heavy one, though. There used to be this "challenge". The Blue Whale challenge. I'm not gonna elaborate on it beyond the fact that it took many young people with itself, far before they should've, due to sheer human cruelty. I first heard this cover under a Hungarian video of someone addressing people at the time, those who hypocritically called out those behind this "challenge", while often being bullies themselves, and driving their targets to do the exact same thing the Blue Whale challenge made teenagers do. The creator chose to use this song at the end, where he emphasized how much kind words matter. How, instead of wringing your hands when something bad happens, you should lend a hand before it happens. How you only need to say a few kind words, and you, too, can pull people out of the depths, allowing the people around you to stop going off the deep end and become what they were meant to be. How you, too, can show how much value these people have, which they only need to find in themselves, and how you can and should help them in achieving that. That one monologue changed how I approach people, and to an extent, even what career I chose. It came not long before I decided to pivot from I.T. to pursue medicine, and later specifically became interested in mental health. And I doubt it would've had the same impact if it wasn't underscored by this hopeful, soaring orchestral piece. So... it has been 7 years since then, but I still felt the need to stop by and say thanks. Thanks for playing a part in changing my life for the better with this piece of music.
