I have not done this but by looking at this technique, i can say this will do the job, same procedure but select black things & set solid color layer blending mode to "screen” instead of "multiply."

Any colorization like this works superb with Gradient Map as well. Contained within a mask you get full color control of shadows, midtones and highlights by simply adjusting the gradient
