In case someone is wondering, you need to single click the droppers to pick the subject or else it replaces what has been done before. So its double click the first time to pick the background and then single click to pick the subject.

This used to work for me but not anymore and I don't know why. When I select one of the 3 eydroppers then select color, it's not selecting the correct color (it selects random colors, often black or white). any clue what's wrong? (P.S. I have the curves selected not the mask and I have current & below selected as well)

simple next time you use the eyedropper in the curves adjustment panel you will be good to go photoshop will only set defaults for the image you are currently editing

ADMIN HERE: For those of you asking how to Reset Curves: 1. Double click on the white point eyedropper and set that to white. 2. Double click on the gray point eyedropper and set that to gray (hex code: 808080 or R,G,B=128). 3. Double click on the black point and set that to black.

Yes, I have this issue before. Its because I didn't click on the curves adjustment icon, but on the mask. And even I've clicked on the icon, I didn't double-click on it, so yeah colors won't match at all and it goes crazy...

What is the difference between Fill and Opacity?

fill will only take out the fill color of the image and leave the borders if the fill is set to 0 whereas opacity impacts the entire image if u set the opacity to 0 your whole image will disappear leaving no silhouette or borders

I guess it helps if the subject has a similar colour and exposure as the background. Try having 2 stops difference and it all falls apart
