Another reason to enclose the bees in a protective apiary is they try to pollinate underwater plants and drown. When using an apiary, one needs to ensure there are no flowers nearby outdoors, or the bees will track to those plants and get stuck in that corner of the building, breaking the farm. Apparently, the bees check an outer limit for flowers first, then nearer flowers, which is how they get too far from their hives to return.

One thing to know about waxed copper: if you build a roof out of weathered or oxidized copper, a lightning strike on it or a nearby lightening rod will force the blocks back to copper blocks. But waxed copper blocks ignore lightening and will remain at their age even when struck during a thunderstorm.

I really like it that bees are attracted to the flowers on Flowering Azalea Leaves, so often I'll use those in my bee-based farms as the flower. It's really nice being able to incorporate a block instead of working in a flower that has to be placed on a dirt-type block.

If I can remember correctly: i think you can light up your area to stop pillager patrols - while they can spawn in any light level, player placed light sources such as torches, lanterns, etc. can prevent pillager patrols from spawning.

That's correct. Pillager spawning ignores the sky light level, but can be prevented with a block light level over 8.

Yes, in Bedrock you can bonemeal a flower & if there is room (empty dirt/ grass blocks) around it, a random number of flowers will grow. (usually of the same type) OR you can do the Java method & bonemeal the grass & get grass, tall grass & flowers (randomly) too. Also, I believe (in Bedrock) placing ANYTHING (even a flower) DIRECTLY in front of a hive's opening BLOCKS the bees from leaving/ entering! (so you MIGHT need to widen this farm by a couple rows to have any chance of making it work. Not sure it if would work in Bedrock anyways, but just a warning.)

11:30 Bees do age while inside the hive. This was fixed in 1.16. From the patch notes of 1.16: MC-166135 - Bees inside a nest or hive do not grow up or get their breeding timer reset. 18:00 You say there isn't a tree with a greater likelihood of generating bee nests, but missed the detail that only certain trees can generate them. Birch, Oak, and Mangrove trees for when grown near a flower can generate with a bee nest, but for Cherry trees, the patch notes for 1.20 only say they can generate with bee nests at world generation, nothing for growing them near flowers to generate new nests, and no updates regarding cherry trees or bees at all for 1.20.1.

great video. don't know if it's been corrected, but bees used to fly into campfires used for pacification. found that setting the campfire in a two-deep hole topped by a dirt kept bees from doing that while still allowing the smoke to hit the hive (it also kept me from taking unintentional damage).

I find bee farms like the one you build inefficient because of if you trap a set of bees and they look next door and look "hey, that flower's nice" despite being over one then no honey is produced. I like building a much bigger greenhouse style so that bees can freely fly around, gather pollen, and then float back to their hives. It's also a tiny bit more humane than the farm you made but idk, that's how I think with builds in mind. (Missed opportunity for a "ba-bee" joke.)

Since you are starting to show some more varied redstone in particular sometimes it's hard to understand the orientation or outputs of blocks. The chances of a nest spawning when a tree is grown that way depends on the biome you are in. Some biomes, like savannahs and deserts, will never have a nest spawn, while others, like birch forests, meadows, and flower forests, have a much higher chance. Check the Wiki for exact percentages.

Trying to build this farm without seeing what Pix is doing and thinking I've got it down until I put the hives I have in and the dispensers just do nothing despite being full of shears. :( The worst part is I don't know where I messed up because I built it based on what he was saying and couldn't see where he was putting everything and I've already enclosed what I built with glass so if I needed like, an extra layer next to the observers and dispensers to wire them up properly I didn't leave myself room for that... And I thought after I got a successful autosmelter based on the recent video about it that I'd be fine with this too... Update a week and a half after the fact: _So my dispensers were facing the opposite direction than I wanted them to and I just wasn't paying enough attention._ I fixed it, and now have loads of honeycomb! :D By the time I solved the problem I'd expanded my little enclosure so there was a row of clear blocks behind the redstone stuff, and to celebrate my victory I lined those spaces with pink petals for the bees. That's plenty of indoor things for them to pollinate!

I think the bee nest on the cherry tree was empty of bees because they could not path find back up the water stream.. the stream was running and carrying the particles all the way down into the meadow.
