It's a shame that this Western only lasted 13 episodes. It must have been buried by popular shows on other nets or it followed a poorly rated program. Quality product.

McLean is a pretty good actor. Don't know if he went on to other series, movies, OR what but, someone missed the mark if they didn't sign him up. thanx 4 posting

Tate is an American Western television seriesstarring David McLean that aired on NBCfrom June 8 until September 14, 1960. It was created by Harry Julian Fink, who wrote most of the scripts, and produced by Perry Como's Roncom Video Films, Inc., as a summer replacement for The Perry Como Show.

Actually, this filled the second half hour where "PERRY COMO'S KRAFT MUSIC HALL" appeared during the regular season. 0:31- ED HERLIHY: "'TATE', is brought to you by KRAFT! Kraft- for good food, and good food ideas."

Random thoughts about this rather weird, but enjoyable, series: 1) In the intro and other parts of the series, Tate is using a percussion revolver, the loading of which is a slow process for a man with two good hands. On his belt, there are cartridge loops with cartridges, something that probably would not work in that gun. In other parts, you see him carrying and using a single action cartridge-firing gun with a loading gate. This type stuff was a common Hollywood mistake in Westerns from the 50's thru the 70's. 2) 8:52, the old woman says she will get him "something special" before bringing out a bowl of dishwater and turds. I guess back then, at least they warned you before screwing with your food, unlike today.

Peter Burnett trolls ALL the old classic westerns and continues to post disparaging comments. Can't figure out why, if he doesn't like them, WHY does he continues to watch them? Weirdo!!!

And how many women and children did Sherman murder in his "march to the sea"? That murderous rampage is what wrought Cantrell's raiders. Killing everyone and burning everything in sight, Sherman was the most despicable excuse for a human being that ever lived.

Tom Swinburn ...are you actually forgetting Hitler? & do you NOT realize that, though his acts were atrocious, it was that which sped the end of that horrid war (not sure he killed as many "women & children" as some say)? It could have gone on for many more years & how many, many more good ppl would have lost their lives, leaving how MANY more widows & orphans.... I'm glad it ended when it did, by whatever means brought it to a close. It's a sad, sad part of our history. I know about the sadness of it all....... my great grand-dad was in it, though he wanted no part of the killing he was told to sign up or be shot. His wife died while he was gone, leaving 10 kids alone. Let's just don't have another one just because of the hatred spread by those using the "race" card every time they get in front of a camera-often their own, shown on UTUBE. There is not 1/10th the race problems as what they make it sound by their rhetoric. THAT is sickening. There is NO glory in war. No one has reason to fear me or mine. Peace to all.

My Great Grandfather’s older brother was about 11 when the Yankees passed through the family farm south of Atlanta. He came home and was told the Soldiers were foraging for food and among the bounty they took the family milk cow. He threw up a fuss he would bring the cow back as she was like family. He caught up with the Soldiers’ camp and walked in and untied the cow and started home, hollering she was like family and loved by all. The Soldiers all laughed and apparently admired his determination as he led the cow home.
