Amazing. Only 8 years before making this movie Roy Rogers (Len Slye) was driving a gravel truck for a construction company.

That was the one of the positive things about the old time studio system. While they controlled stars in many ways they also took them in, trained them, often to sing, ride, shoot, and a lot more. It was the time of the Great Depression, and compared to millions, working for Republic Pictures, MGM. Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, was a whole lot better.

1939. As it became apparent there was going to be a war with Germans involved, we were concerned about the Mexican border problem becoming much as it had been in WWI with German spies. Therefore we needed to ensure good relations with Mexico, We made a lot of western movies with this in mind.
