Magnificent. What a movie. I have to say this is in my top 5 all time favorites now. So thankful for the capability to watch this. It might not seem like much to some but for me it is everything. A great movie. As they say if you build it they will come. Well because of the person creating this KZbin channel I'm able to enjoy timeless classics now that I'm disabled. I can't Express the gratitude I have for so much has been taken due to my chronic condition. I feel alive. And in this state that's a difficult thing to find. I wish you the best and have saved it on my channel as I have so many of your other films. Thank you again for this. If you could recommend any films similar to this in your collection I'd be overjoyed. Quite frankly I don't know how to thank you enough as it is in my current state of pleasure and fulfillment. These little parts of my life are all I have now hence my need to Express myself in great detail. 🤗❤jo

Edward Arnold (1890 - 1956) made his first stage appearance aged 12 as Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice and the show business bug immediately bit him and he made his professional stage debut in 1907. He worked as an extra until getting his first significant role in the 1916 movie, The Misleading Lady. After that movie he returned to the stage until he made his talking debut in OK America (1932). He went on to appear in more than 150 movies and was never out of work - sometimes he worked on two pictures at once! Almost unbelievably, he was labelled "box office poison" by an exhibitors' magazine which hardly fazed him - after all, he shared that dubious distinction with Katherine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Mae West and Fred Astaire to name but a few. His role in the 1935 film Diamond Jim really cemented his star quality. He always had a weight problem which meant he wasn't judged suitable for leading man roles but he commented after he decided give up on giving up any weight reduction, "The bigger I got, the better character roles I received." He played rogues and authority figures superbly with some of his best movies in the 1930s being The Toast Of New York (1937), You Can't Take It With You (1938) and Mr Smith Goes To Washington (1939). He was the first to portray the fictional detective Nero Wolfe in Met Nero Wolfe (1936). He had a posthumous cameo in the 1984 movie Gremlins as the deceased husband (clearly visible in a large framed photograph) of the character of the rich, heartless Mrs Deagle. Arnold's family gave permission for the cameo. He also worked extensively on radio and TV . He was President of the Screen Actors Guild from 1940 to 1942.

What a fun, patriotic film that showed those Nazis a thing or two! Granted, they were portrayed as far too merciful and patient. Great role for Edward who did quite a lot for the war effort on the home front. It was truly terrible having to endure Donna Reed in such a nasty role when all I care to remember is her marvelous sugar and spice performance in "It's a Wonderful Life" five years later. Oh momma was I envious of Jimmy Stewart (my favorite actor of all time)! She was the prettiest thing on two legs in the 40's for my money. Many will disagree, cuz the competition was indeed stiff! Prettiest actress of all time for my money? Grace Kelly! Once again, that two-timing Jimmy Stewart stole my gal (in Rear Window this time!) -- not to mention the King of Monaco! Jimmy is just lucky that I was only knee high to a grasshopper at the time or I might have written him a non-fan letter (after I learned how to write)! :-) Dog "Friday" was a joy to watch!
