these shows show how people kept in touch without cell phones....back then you would tell people where you would be and give them the telephone number..

a nice twist at the end would have been if Pam came in wearing a ruby necklace and he asked where'd you get that? and she says "Well the sink was stopped up and I took the trap out and well, that red goo was actually from the cherries....." big smile and a hug...
