Great job! I found one Athol vise very similar to this one last week. That’s why I found the info you gave on Athol vises at the beginning particularly useful. I licked it, though, as u recommend. I am writing u from the hospital :p kind regards and keep it on!
@PJGalati4 жыл бұрын
Vise licking is a specialized testing method and should not be performed by untrained individuals or small children....or space aliens.... the more important question is, did the vise speak to you? :P

Good looking vise restoration there. Them there might be pretty close to the colors of our once beloved St Louis Rams!

Thanks! I'm not a sports guy, but I'm glad it looks like the Rams should be throwing it back and forth. lol

I just bought the same one and I'm going to restore it based on this video. There is for sale on FB in Berlin CT. It is that "minty green" color

Just acquired one of these vises myself. Been in my wife’s family at their multi generational shop since this vise was new. Kind of liked your video style. Especially when at the sawhorse scene where I thought I was watching a tool restoration version of “Pimp My Ride”… 🤣😂🤣

I grabbed one of these at a NJ flea market roughly 3 years ago for $40.00. what a find. I'd Love to know what this tool looked like new so I could restore it as close to it's original color as possible.

You're gonna have to have one made or find a second vise to rob it off or get one off ebay.

Hey vise licker! What attachment is that on your impact that was used to remove the swivel base bolt?

Great video, entertaining and a fantastic restoration. Was the vice cast iron or cast steel? A stall holder at a car boot sale (flea market) once told me they never used to put removable jaws on cast steel vices, which I took with the prescribed pinch of salt and moved on to the next stall. Please note: I’m still very much at the gullible stage of tool restoration, I’m still trying to work out the best way of welding a wooden plane. You do realise your 'shop looks far too tidy for a true follower of Hand Tools Rescue don’t you? For the amount of videos you’ve made you are ridiculously undersubscribed, but I’ve just added one more.
@PJGalati5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark! I assume the vise is cast iron (as most are) but I don't know for sure. Yes, I am a proponent of keeping things "more tidy" than Eric does, but we are related. As for being undersubscribed....I think I lost I bet with someone lol.
@markharrisllb5 жыл бұрын
P. J. Galati I think it’s cool you’re both related, I can imagine a lot of jesting around at family gatherings. We all have different ways of working, it’s the finished product that counts and you’re both to notch there.
