i have a 624 athol vise i am missing the the locking mechanism for the vise swivel, any help in me finding one

You're gonna have to have one made or find a second vise to rob it off or get one off ebay.

Nice video but does your outfeed table get in the way when the saw blade is tilted to cut 45 degree cuts? Doesn't the back end of the motor run into the bottom of the outfeed table? I tried something like this and the clearance issue inhibited me from cutting 45s. Please explain how you solved this issue.
@PJGalati9 күн бұрын
I only made straight cuts, so I don't know.

Well, you can make a REALLY short one!
@daz43124 жыл бұрын
The term you are looking for is "chicago screws." Funny I never heard them called sex nuts before...however aptly named... :o Sometimes you can find really short ones in leather belts holding the buckles on. There is also a type you can use in sheet metal or other thin stock where you can't reach behind the panel to hold the nut, called rivnuts, or nutserts, they are a sort of like a pop rivet with threads down the middle for the screws. As you tighten the screw in from the front side, it collapses the nut part permanently into the stock like a rivet, and then the screw can be taken out again when necessary. Used em to put new speakers in my truck doors.
@PJGalati3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know what you mean about the rivnuts, I see them advertised a lot. The sex nuts name came straight out of a woodworking magazine 25 years ago and when I ordered them, that was also the name listed. I'm sure they have several different names depending on the manufacturer.

I've got one of these, but either the switch or the speed controller board is dead. I took it apart and cleaned it, and DeOxited the board and switch, but I'll have to break out the multimeter because that wasn't enough to fix it. Mechanically, it's fine. The motor and brushes look hardly used.
@PJGalati4 жыл бұрын
trouble shooting circuit boards is always a bit tricky, but some times you get lucky. check for cold solder joints too, sometimes it's that simple.
@ZiggyTheHamster4 жыл бұрын
@@PJGalati I'm thinking it's the switch since it intermittently shuts off, but it could be the potentiometer that the speed knob goes into since the speed knob doesn't work correctly (anything less than about 10 stops the motor). Nothing gets hot when it shuts down so it's not the brushes or commutator. Also before your video I had no idea how the autoscroll feature was meant to work :). Thankfully, this thing is very simple electronically, so even if both pots and the transistor are dead, ordering a replacement won't be too hard (even the switch seems to be a common part, though I don't have a suitable replacement on hand). Though figuring out the value of the pots might be a pain.

Never seen this type of saw before. Had a quick look on eBay and the only two makes I can find are Craftsman and Skil, neither make is common in the U.K. though Skil are getting better availability. Thus far, when I can’t use my bandsaw, I’ve ground down a jigsaw blade with my imitation Dremel to make it thinner. Another very good video, enjoyed it all.

Great video, entertaining and a fantastic restoration. Was the vice cast iron or cast steel? A stall holder at a car boot sale (flea market) once told me they never used to put removable jaws on cast steel vices, which I took with the prescribed pinch of salt and moved on to the next stall. Please note: I’m still very much at the gullible stage of tool restoration, I’m still trying to work out the best way of welding a wooden plane. You do realise your 'shop looks far too tidy for a true follower of Hand Tools Rescue don’t you? For the amount of videos you’ve made you are ridiculously undersubscribed, but I’ve just added one more.
@PJGalati5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark! I assume the vise is cast iron (as most are) but I don't know for sure. Yes, I am a proponent of keeping things "more tidy" than Eric does, but we are related. As for being undersubscribed....I think I lost I bet with someone lol.
