I don't think this song is weak - it's a song exploring her own vulnerability in the songwriting process, her willingness to understand the World and its conflicts. It had to be this quiet, unassertive song. I find it so touching, and extremely well-written. Pay attention to those lyrics.
@MyMpc1 Жыл бұрын
Precisely how is it exploring ‘her own vulnerability in the doing writing process’? Utter nonsense. It’s a song clearly about war and it’s got nothing to do with ‘her own vulnerability’.
@talkingtomyself3423 Жыл бұрын
@@MyMpc1 i was talking not about the theme but about the understated way she wrote it but okay

There is nothing wrong with wanting another one like Rid of Me. Takes nothing away from her current work. I would LOVE another rocker myself but I still love this. People want what they want. Can't do shit about it
@amelianolde67438 жыл бұрын
I see my comment wasn't taken quite well. Let me explain it so it doesn't sound so rude: I've always seen how many people criticise artists when they stuck in their style for long periods. In my case, I really admire the ability of daring to try new things. Isn't it one of the necessities of an artist to renew its creations? I feel that if she hadn't moved on, she would be roughly criticised, so that's why I complain about the people who only want her to repeat herself. By the way, I also love Rid of me! It's probably one of my favourite albums ever. So, that's all. Have a nice day ;)
@nataliaryakhovskiy82878 жыл бұрын
+amelia nolde Hmm, well it did "sound so rude " You obviously like to express your own opinion too, and say exactly how you feel about Polly's work, as you just did, and have an absolute right to. It would have been great if you could have afforded those other fans of PJ to express theirs without such a dictatorial ' you have no right to say that ' attitude, people just don't like it, as I'm sure you wouldn't ... Have nice day : )

I waded into the discussion on the video of her appearance on Andrew Marr's show so I'll do the same here ... For me the fact that she changes so radically and puts herself on the line every time is so very admirable, and if you can go for 25 years and hardly set a foot wrong that's all but miraculous. I've got no problem with Hope Six's politics (another recalcitrant English leftie) and while I find some of the album hamfisted (for the first time ever) there are bits that make me weep. It's musically actually quite different from Let England Shake (blues-slanted rather than folk-slanted) and even when it doesn't come off there are still things to enjoy. Polly said a few years ago that her 'role on earth' was to 'explore what it means to be human through music' and I imagine that as her own hardest critic she'll learn from what's gone right on this album and what's gone wrong, and come out with something equally unexpected next time (unless she decides to give up and run for Parliament, or become ordained or something). The discussion here is salutary for me as I find this one of the weaker tracks whereas lots of folk here like it! It only goes to vindicate Polly's long-held line that how someone listens to her music is more important than what she intended by it. I'd be interested to know how people understand the whole Orange Monkey image as I struggle to get a handle on it.
@KillerBill19537 жыл бұрын
One of the better songs on what I personally consider a patchy album. In my opinion, a step down from "Let England Shake" and, to some extent I agree with waz312 in that this could be considered "Let England Shake" part 2.

then you should listen to the album, you'll find a lot of pieces that stand their ground alone, without the aid of images and concepts. Still, this is art. She's using the yuxtaposition of a happy go lucky melody with quietly disturbing images, which in turn mean something else I'm sure you know. I take yor point though. To each...
