Legend of Zelda BOTW has to be my number one. That game reignited a love for video games that had been lost for a long long time and sitting down with my switch in college when I finally got the game 3 years after it came out felt like I was coming home. I love and adore that game so much

Man, same! It's such a nice game! My family didn't have any type of console when I was growing up and my parents weren't very into letting us get many computer games, either, so when I bought a switch with some summer job money while in uni 2017, BOTW was my first actual console game 😄 It blew my mind and I was completely engrossed the rest of that summer, and have since played it through a million times :'D

Ah man. Your story about the early days of Minecraft made my heart lurch. I don't play many multiplayer games, and MC was my first experience playing with a larger group of friends. That feeling of shared discovery and freedom is SO distinct. The fact that I still feel that way when I play with my siblings (there's so many updates to keep up with haha) is a testament to the game's brilliance.

I feel PJ's passion for these games so much, unfortunately I haven't been able to play and discover as many games for a while now with uni, but I've recently started picking it back up again and god did I miss it. I spent my kid and teenage years being shaped by all the games I played. Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda's Skyward Sword come to mind as the most prominent ones that I still treasure to this day, having played it several times with my brother when we were younger. Hollow knight is one of the first games that I played in recent years that got me back into gaming again. Super, super fun to be doing this again :)

@@rincross7454 I’m so glad you replied! This game was so impactful for me also. Kind of indescribable. I feel a little silly saying that, but it was an irreplaceable experience. It seems to live in its own secret corner of the world, which makes it more special, but is also kind of frustrating in a way. I want everyone to be able to play and experience it, but it’s sort of hard to put into words how amazing it is.

I don't think I could come up with nine, I'm not a very big gamer. But the most influential for me were Minecraft, Sims 3, Spore, Nintendogs (my first ever game), Moshi Monsters, Club Penguin, and Kinect Sports. Some of my favourite childhood memories were coming home, ripping off my uniform, and running straight to the PC to play these games until dinner. I remember when I found out my rabbit had been put down I was playing Minecraft and didn't even look up from the game (that's slightly horrific and unhealthy yes but it shows how devoted I was.) My family and I recently discovered Kinect Sports again on my old Xbox 360 and we've been bowling and playing darts nonstop. So even now I still have fun with these games. Games never die unless you let them.

And the second game I think you'd love would be Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy that came out last year. The storytelling, the characters. That game was definitely a pleasant surprise. 5* recommendation for PJ right there. Would be cool if you would do something similiar list wise with movies as well.

These are great games and I really love the way you explained how each game was special to you. I was always a video game kid, too. We had a Sega Genesis, which felt like the poor mans version of the SNES that everyone else had, but Sonic was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Then my brother and I saved up our birthday money and money from shovelling snow and moving lawns for like 2 years and got an N64 and I played that thing nonstop for like 10 years haha. Since I only really hung out with other girls, most of my friends stopped playing video games by high school but now I'm 31 and to this day I still spend most of my time playing and... now I play with my son :) I feel like I'm a pretty cool parent because I know all the games 😎

Luigi is Missing, Dr. Mario, Bubble Bobble Barbie Team Gymnastics (PC), Designers World, Sims Castaways Nancy Drew The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, Minecraft, Sims 4 The first 3 were the ones I'd stay up late playing on the 64, or playing with my siblings. Bubble Bobble was one I had friends over to play and we had a notebook with the codes all the way up to Level 99. Barbie Gymnastics was the first real game I played on the PC, Designer World was one of the ones you plugged into the TV and played via remote and I played it for hours every night after my siblings went to bed. Sims Castaway was my first game on the DS. Nancy Drew was *my* game on the Wii and I'd play it for an hour each night till I did somethng out of order and couldnt complete it anymore 😅. Minecraft was one of the first games I reconnected with my brothers with when they became teens, and one of the first I could play online with friends during pandemic. And the Sims 4 has just genuinely become an escape during the pandemic and also not being where I want to be in life yet.

*Pokémon X*. It gets bashed a lot as the start of lazy Pokémon games (which, understandable) but it was the first Pokémon game I ever touched and I quickly fell in love with the franchise. I spent so many hours of my life filling out the dex, and eventually trading and breeding to find the perfect stats for competitive battling. Definitely gets a lot of points for nostalgia. *Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (DS version)*. I was obsessed with this game as a child. I was so good at the dream snowboarding, I would force my friends to watch me so I could show them the shortcut that I thought made me the coolest person ever. And that's not even to mention the story mode, which I spent countless hours exploring and trying to complete. *Fireboy and Watergirl*. I used to beg my cousin to play this simple free online game because it was a way I could work together with someone to accomplish the goal. In a way it was my first multiplayer game, and since I hadn't been exposed to much of the internet, I was entranced. *Minecraft*. I can remember the first time I heard about it, from the cousin I already mentioned. At that time the game was very small still, with only zombies to worry about (nothing like the soon-to-be warden that already haunts my nightmares), but enough to terrify a ten or so year old me. Over the years I would look forward to my weekly visit with my Grammy, because she would let me play Minecraft on her computer. My cousin would come over at the same time and we'd spend hours sharing the controls, building massive prisons for every mob, and doing our best to figure out how to play survival. In a way I really grew up with this game. *The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess*. I cannot stress enough how much of a masterpiece this game is. I hold it so dearly to my heart. My close friend through elementary school introduced me to this series and this game in particular was just... Ours. It was all we'd talk about, we'd roleplay the characters at recess and at home. Out of everything on this list this is one of the games I feel has impacted me the most. *New Super Mario Bros Wii*. This and Mario Kart are the only games I can remember playing with my family (who aren't really a fan of video games in general). Mario is such a fun and welcoming series (even if I had to ask my dad to beat the final levels for me), that I look back on it with very fond memories. This game in particular brought me a lot of laughter. *The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of the Wild*. Again with Zelda, but the amount of love in my heart for this game is beyond words. This took a series I already loved and made it immersive in a way that completely occupied every ounce of free time I could spare. It's a recent game, but I'm still in a stage of my life where I'm still being easily shaped by what I encounter, and BotW was so, so inspiring for me. It made me curious about 3d animation and game design as a whole, topics I'm currently exploring that fall under the umbrella of digital media design. In the end I could only name seven. New games were somewhat rare for me growing up, and once I found one I loved I fixated on it and didn't give myself much time to experiment with others. There are tons of games I've since played and enjoyed, but none strike me as games that shaped who I am like the ones I've listed.
