Today I'll be talking about my switch from competitive team games into single player games.
It's interesting how switching from competitive video games since my early childhood into more single player oriented games has changed my outlook on gaming entirely.

I realized yesterday that I haven’t been fully “immersed” in a game world in years. What I mean is I haven’t played a game without media in the background, music, or a KZbin video, so I played a horror game with ZERO distractions for an hour last night, and I had the most fun in years. I’m not trying to sound like a crusty boomer, but I think it’s helped me to enjoy games more, overstimulation is too real

I feel you there, i literally wont play a game unless i have a video in the background. I noticed i stopped enjoying the journey and instead only focused on "beating the game or not playing" because "it feels like a waste of time without an ending" recently been trying to enjoy the journey again

this can work without being overbearing but there needs to be a way to access vlc, especially in sandbox games, ingame, its not immersion breaking if you never have to leave the experience, i absolutely never play with extra added sound, its not overstimulating if its ambience and some people can handle more information at once than others

It’s weird because I kinda feel the opposite. I was in love with single players games, and was a campaign only player for a while and the only reason I played valorant a lot was because how competitive I could be at times. In any of the games I played be it valorant, Overwatch, etc I always played them alone and any friends I did make, were temporary and after a few weeks or so I never talked to those “friends” again and at first I was fine with this. During this time in my life I honestly believed I was an introvert and believed that simply talking to people through games drained me of my energy. But since I was eager to get better at valorant I joined an esports team that my school made. through this esports team i got invited to one my teammates discord server and this server was where I had found my group of friends. After a few months hanging around my friend group I realized that I was getting bored of playing single player games and I couldn’t play valorant by myself anymore. After meeting my friend group it made me realized that I actually loved being around people, so much that even my competitiveness began to lessen. Now it’s been about 2 years and I’m still friends with that group (which I know isn’t probably that long but to me, who never really had friends let alone a group, it was pretty important to me) and I can confidently say that my friends probably changed my life for the better Edit: umm i didn’t realized I type this long of a comment….. sorry for the paragraph you don’t need to read it

that sounds familiar to my experience. I'm kinda in the middle of all these perspectives. i've played minecraft, terraria, hollow knight, and some mario games on my own, but have hundreds of hours playing games with friends and.. besides hollow knight, i have much better memories playing games with my friends rather than on my own. i'm a social person, i love sharing experiences, and nowadays i can get kind of depressed when im always just doing something alone. there's something so special about having a couple people with you to joke and share the experience with i just bought a bunch of specs for a pc im gonna build (6750xt + 5 7600), and i keep reminding myself that it's not something im just going to be using all alone in my room and end up depressed with. rather it's going to allow me to connect with my friends and new friends in a way that wasn't possible before. im really excited. life is good when you live it together with your squad 🙂🫡 and yeah, ur comment was a good read, lol

I've been a Solo player for most of my gaming experience. Based on my experience, I'm kind of thankful that was the case. It made me learn how to have fun when no one else was on and it pays off now that all of my friends have moved on with their lives. 2-3 hours of gaming after work alone is refreshing for me while everyone else is miserable with the same experience simply because they're too used to playing with friends.

I grew up sometimes spending large periods of time gaming alone, other times spending most of my time gaming with friends. In my adult life I generally game alone and then on weekends I game with two of my friends a fair bit. It's all about making the time for your hobby and finding friends that have the time or are willing to make the time to game with you.

I’ve always been a single player gamer since my childhood in the 90s. I never got into online until I dipped my toes into it near the end of high school. Even when I got my laptop and tried several multiplayer games, I was always bad at them and was never able learn the ropes to be competitive. Now with the whole discussion of how live services are dying and single player being on the rise again, I can’t help be feel at home with all the titles that are being released and making my Wishlist larger than my Steam library.

How are live service games dying? they are played more than ever before Many live service games are just managed badly, like for example destiny 2 or some MMORPGs, but people still keep playing them somehow despite giving them really bad reviews on steam Some other games just fail to introduce actual new stuff, like cs:go, so people eventually get bored of it and leave, like myself, but again.. player numbers are still insanely high, because some other beginner took my place. Sometimes there are also some problems, like as with cs2 recently, but people claiming a game is "dying" because the game went from 1,5 million concurrent player daily peak to 1 million peak is absurd to me. same with so many other games. These people are claiming that the most played games in the world are dying.
@matheuscabral9618
@matheuscabral9618 5 ай бұрын
live service games aren’t dying, fortnite’s peak was just a month ago for example. It’s just that it’s really hard to make one that works and most of them fail, but the ones that succeed aren’t dying at all
@Verchiel_
@Verchiel_ 5 ай бұрын
I think when people say "love service games are dying" they mean they're becoming lower and lower quality and less worth putting in money or time into. Sales charts sadly argue against that. But yea, I too am a single player enjoyer my entire life. To this day I rarely ever touch multiplayer, whether because I don't have a mic or simply hate putting up with people (or feeling the guilt of making something less fun) Never see myself stopping playing single player. Maybe I missed out on the golden age of multiplayer but I also get to miss out on the negative feelings of having my favorite multiplayer franchises go to shit.
@Hosenbund1
@Hosenbund1 5 ай бұрын
@@Verchiel_ I play everything, there are all kinds of live service games.. its not just pvp.. there are pvp and pve live service games, or games which do both And also.. too many people suffer from the sunk-cost-fallacy. If something goes to trash there is a simple solution: Play a better game. It is why World of Warcraft is on a decline and why Final Fantasy 14 for example is rising up since years and now basically already rivals WoW in popularity you cant generalize it like that. There are so many games, you just need to be open for new stuff and you gonna find something you like

I used to play so many competitive FPS games, got to DMG in CS, APEX, Valorant, played a shit ton of MW2019 and MWII but I vividly remember one night grinding for Orion camo in MWII where I was just getting destroyed by SBMM. The challenges weren’t fun and the player base weren’t making it easier, it got to the point that I had what I can only describe as a legitimate mental breakdown over CoD. I stepped away from FPS games and started playing a bunch of single player games like RDR2, Cyberpunk and Tales of Arise; it’s safe to say that I probably won’t touch another hyper-competitive game in the near future and I’m happier than ever because of it.

so true. you have to realize why you play games. what's the priority? is it for fun, social reasons, winning, or achieving excellence? what is the order of those priorities? for me it's social, fun, excellence, then winning. that means solo queing competitive games -like i did for hundreds of hours- isn't my best bet, cause then there's no socializing and im just playing to win. if you're fine being alone, don't rly care about fun, and just want to win, you might as well work on something productive that will make you win in real life

I definitely connected with your experience! I grew up being player 2, and when I got into pc games I played competitive games with my friends. I actually really didn’t like playing competitive games, and it was my least favorite part about growing up playing halo and cod with my older brother. I am not a competitive person, and I always wanted to explore the game maps with my brother (instead of fight him). So when I got into playing single player games, I eventually stopped trying to play with my friends because they like competitive games, and I enjoyed single player games. I do miss playing with my friends, but I enjoy the games I play more because I’m not forcing myself to be competitive. And I love the various experiences I get, from chill Animal Crossing, to interesting puzzle games, to story-driven games, to all the souls/borne games I’ve played, and some short experimental games too! I’m much happier with these experiences. Also I get to choose to spend time with my friends outside of gaming, where I know I connect better with them in non-competitive ways. Anyways, great video! Love your style and the reflection! I’m glad you shared your experience!

I've always preferred single player games over multi-player, but that has changed over time. Like when I was a kid, multi-player was having friends over and all playing on the same screen/console, but now it's just about all online. It can still be fun, but it's not exactly the same as having your friends sitting right beside you. As you get older, it's harder to get everyone online at the same time, not to mention in the same room lol but single player games are just easier to get into after work if you just want to play for a couple hours

I’m on the opposite end of this. I’ve learned to appreciate solo gaming again due to my friends only playing competitive and sports games, buying it every single year and complaining how there’s “nothing new to play.” When in reality I’ve tried countless times to get them to play a co-op type game IE Borderlands, but they just shrug it off and continue paying the $60 (now $70 lmfao) every year to play the same game and continue complaining about there being “nothing exciting” So I definitely think games are as social as they can be now, but it all really depends on what you and your friends are into, given if they still game or not. (I know you said yours moved on but this is more so for anyone who stumbles across this comment.) Either way, if you ever want to make a new gaming friend or someone to nerd out about single player games throw me a message (: I think I’ve ranted and typed enough here lmao thanks for reading til the very end.

Love this video. Great writing! I feel like it summarizes a lot of what I feel about gaming, without sounding jaded or depressed. You took words I didn't know I was looking for, right out of my mouth! I have struggled for a long time with the feeling that gaming just isn't fun, or something isn't the same. I dropped almost every single PVP game in favor of solo games, or co-op games, and god have I not been this happy in years! Thank you for these awesome words!

This was really an interesting experience, I've never been that kind of guy to play single player games, except that I picked up Call Of Duty WWII couple of times, I've been playing games with my friends or rather strangers online, but I spent most of the time playing alone, competitive games can really get on your nerves and it's a great thing to sometimes make a change and spend your time doing something else for a bit, thank you for the video

The script felt a little ramble-y at times, but I was definitely interested in different parts as it went along. The editing is super solid, and the audio is calming and well recorded. This gen z perspective is very interesting. Great video! It’s cool to see someone younger come to an understanding older generations know. I miss the old couch co-op game experiences. Sharing a couch co-op game is a different experience than doing it online. Too bad not many games offer that anymore. Which is why I’m usually stuck playing through campaigns on my own.

Great video! As someone who prefers single player games I found this to be a really interesting perspective. One thing that caught my attention was one point where you used the song Iwatodai Dorm as background music. (At 5:00) Did you play Persona 3? If you have, I think that would be something interesting to hear you talk about. Turn based RPG's are very different from your FPS background, and even the action games that you mentioned later on. Would be really interesting to hear your perspective on a game like that if you played it

I’ve always preferred single player games. I always have a multiplayer game, but it’s the thing I did to socialize between single player games. Yeah, I played Little Big Planet 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, Destiny, Black Ops 3, Overwatch, Fortnite, and Final Fantasy 14…but the single player games were the ones that stuck out to me. Outside of Final Fantasy 14 and Little Big Planet 2, I really don’t look back on multiplayer gaming that fondly. The games I remember are the ones like Last of Us, Super Metroid, Hollow Knight, God of War 4, and the likes. I find that the games that I can beat within 30 hours tend to be the ones I like the best. After the 30th hour, I don’t really care anymore. In fact, if a story takes longer than 30 hours, outside of tears exceptions like Persona 5, Elden Ring, and Breath of the Wild…I just don’t like them. Pacing is everything to me and in my opinion, a 15 hour game has to try a lot harder with its pacing than a 50 hour game. Only a game like RDR2 has the ability to keep me actively engaged for that long. Even a game I love like Xenoblade Chronicles 3…loses me and forces me to take 6 months off to refresh because the combat has gotten too stale. I just prefer finite runtimes

I was in a very similar situation growing up. I had a lot of siblings so whenever I played video games, it was always with someone else. Then my sister moved out for collage and I built a PC, still played a ton of multiplayer but I started to play many more single player games. Titanfall 2, Undertale, and BoTW + ToTK were some of my favorite experiences in gaming. Now, as a freshman in university, I’m finding it harder to try new games. My free time is very limited, thus I fear wasting time on a game I don’t enjoy. However, I just finished Everhood last night. It’s the first game I rolled credits on since moving out. While it did have a slow start, and I didn’t understand a lot of it, it was very refreshing to be happy about the closure of a story again. I’m hoping this trend continues. … Oh, and the video? Great work mate!!!! It really made me think a lot.

Listen here, pal. I don't know who you think you are, but I've got something important to say. You see, in this vast digital jungle, there are keyboard warriors and then there's me, the undisputed king of the chat. So buckle up, because you're about to get a lesson in internet etiquette. When I roll into a discussion, it's like a tornado of wisdom and wit. I don't type, I unleash a symphony of keystrokes that echo through the corridors of cyberspace. You might want to grab a notepad, because class is in session. I've seen memes that would make your grandmother blush and GIFs that could bring a tear to Chuck Norris' eye. My emoji game is so strong, it's practically a superpower. So when you step into my domain, be prepared to witness the digital prowess of a seasoned veteran, you don't disrespect my boy. Yeah, you heard it right. My boy, the unsung hero, the backbone of the squad, the true legend in the making, my glorious king. So, before you even think about throwing shade, consider this a friendly warning.

This is the best KZbin video I have watched in years. Well formated, well played out and with a beautiful message. Sometimes it is worth just taking a break or pause to reflect and think. Sometimes it can feel daunting and scary playing a game all alone that's why I love playing Singleplayer and Multiplayer games as I enjoy interaction between other players and NPC's. At the end of the day, everyone has a different preference and enjoying games is the most important thing! Gained a new subscriber. Loved it! Keep up the good work! 👍👏

I believe I had asked for fallout 4 for christmas, as I really liked the cover art and maybe heard a few things about it, I don't even remember how old I was it was probably junior year of HS. The game just completely changed my perspective on single player gaming. Such a great game. I loved exploring the world and all the little missions and things.
