i'm sorry. As i believe - soon it will be the end of the world and we all will have to die, because we stopped loving each other. i think that i will get the same life again- because it's the best for me . i'm not sure about others. I believe in God's love and protection so it just will be fine. i'm also in a difficult situation because i'm depressed and think about dying or using drugs. as for me trip hop is the best kind of music. good luck !

This album is so hard-hitting. There are a handful of songs (this one included) that could practically be considered punk if it weren't for the softness of the instruments.
@alanknotts18444 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, theres a punk sensibility in a lot of PJ's work. Not so much in the style but more of the deep rooted musical influences. Some of the riffs and nuances a lot of punks would have killed for. Total genius but clever and subtle.

Punk's not just about volume. It's an attitude.
@Sommerlath20062 жыл бұрын
What you call punk is counter culture really. Punk is just a short lived incarnation of counter culture that as soon as it was created it started evolving and gave way to a thousand equally groundbreaking movements. And as far as I’m concerned, along with Nick Cave, PJ Harvey is the most important and challenging artist born from this counter culture.

That bugle call at the beginning and in the middle makes me shiver. The doomed Charge of the Light Brigade, the noise, the screams from dying men and horses, the smell, confusion, terror. Typhoid carried off more men than war, shitting their guts out in a land far from home, crying for their mothers. PJ manages to poetically describe all the filth and misery of war in this remarkable album.
@waterdragon201212 жыл бұрын
pj harvey has been one of my favorites since the early 90s but I gotta say this is the first time she's ever intentionally covered political motifs, that's part of what makes this new record so incredible, because she's said in interviews for the past 2 decades that she can't see herself writing songs about political issues because she never felt capable of it without sounding cheesey, and here we see that she transcended her own artistic barrier.. she's one of the few true artists living today

What an incredible song. Both the songwriting and the production, just so special, I've never heard anything like it. And then you layer that text on top of it, maybe the most acidic irony I've ever heard in music. I'm not English but i almost feel pain and sadness for English people who listen to it for how piercing and dark it must feel for them, and unfortunately it applies to many other countries just or almost as much.

+tripnotico And yet underrated by the majority. Stories from the sea etc is just about my least fav album. But it would Poly the Mercury music prize in the UK. My fav band of the last 20 years are Low. The last two albums are superb but White chalk is s till my fav album since the millennium. Liked Polly since the John peel sessions and saw her first live in 92 on the Dry tour. A small venue (max 300) that was only half full. At the end myself and a couple of friends were standing right in front of the stage shouting loudly "more more" she looked at me with a questioning look. That to me said "really" ? ps like the wheel. A return to more rockier music ?

Whoever would allow the first 27 seconds of a "music video" to linger on wind rustling an old oak tree has my vote! Could England really have a better cultural ambassador than PJ Harvey? She is a true, real, living artist in every sense of the word. Her music is much, much bigger than herself. So deserving of this year's Mercury prize!
