I don’t buy the whole “dogs are only as aggressive as the owner makes them” bullshit. I’ve had 4 pits and a Doberman. Of those 4 pits only one runt female was trusted to be around people and other dogs. The other three either had severe aggression towards other animals or were real sketchy around kids and people. The Doberman is a champ with both dogs and kids. But the pits definitely had issues. All the dogs were raised at a house with other dogs, cats, horses, cows and donkeys. The 3 pits wanted all the smoke with any animal no matter how big. Naive people have propped up the pit bull on their instagrams and Snapchat stories to seem like a nice friendly family dog when that’s just not the case a lot of the time. I would say it’s less than a 50/50 chance that you get a nice well mannered Pit.

I think the issue is that when a pitbull does attack, it's waay deadlier than most dogs. Because they were bred for fighting. As Kyle was saying, they don't release. They have more powerful jaws. They have that instinct. So when do attack, it can wind of killing or severely disfiguring someone. Sure, you can acclimate them to people. But that involves a lot of responsibility and I don't like putting my trust in random people. Because when a pug, or a small dachsund, or a poodle isn't acclimated, it isn't that dangerous. A pitbull can kill an adult man. Rottweilers are also in a similar area. Also comparing dogs to kids is so stupid.

My opinion is that while some dog breeds are physically more built to kill, the breed doesn’t influence the temperament of the dog. Some Pit Bulls are the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet, others will try and kill you on sight. Some golden retrievers are kind and lovable, others are murder machines. Pit bulls were originally bred to guard children, and they were later turned into fighting dogs. All in all, it’s definitely not about the breed, and it is only partially about the owner. I have had 3 pitbulls, 1 one was scared of moving air, 1 was terrified of water, and the other got "attacked" by a butterfly that landed on his nose and he wouldn't leave the house for 3 days. However, my best friend got bit by a golden retriever that pulled its leash out of its owners hand and he had to get like 6 or 7 stitches

I have a rescue pit bull got him on Halloween last year (coincidence?) He's such a sweet dog he plays a little rough but wouldn't intentionally hurt me or my wife at all. He's been great with kids and I think I just got lucky. That was his name too and we kept it. He was the only pit in the pound who wasn't barkimg or trying to bite through the cage. He just sat there like a good boy and I he sold me on pitbulls. It's all about how they get treated

The fact that you're afraid of a 60-90lb hunting bred dog but not 120+lb hunting breeds is just goofy. Theyre not somehow extra dangerous. Its basically the "Assault Rifle" of the dog world. Any dog that does anything wrong theres a solid chance itll get reported as a pittbull even if its not. Anything with a square head? "Pittbull" Most of what people would call a "pittbull" isnt, and would actually be incapable of pitting a bull, just like how most people would call an ar15 an "Assault rifle" by how it looks even though its literally not. Its trendy and easy to hate them without actually caring to think about why.

its not about how your raise them, more and more people are owning pits and in good homes, and there are still reports of attacks from pits killing cats, small dogs and children and even old people. the point is genetics play a role. pits are not a bad breed, they are just bred to fight or have that in their DNA. people just need to know that , and thats it, not ignore it and think you can love generics out of a dog.

I don’t understand this argument. Dogs are like humans there are some bad and some good. And you can’t trust statistics on dogs because 99% of the time someone reports a dog bite they just say a pit bull looking dog without even really knowing what kind of dog it is. My family are veterinarians and this happens time to time. We’ve had a person come in saying that a pit bull attacked them out of nowhere until she said it had black spots on it. When we asked to further detail the dog she said that it had long droopy ears long skinny legs and black spots all over it’s white coat. When we asked why she thought it was a pit bull she said because it had a big head and was big. When we showed her a picture of a Dalmatian she said “that’s it”. Also you have to understand that a lot of pit bull owners are not responsible enough to own one. I’ve seen plenty of people who looked like the dog was walking them and that’s not a sign responsibility that you want. I have 2 dogs currently. 1 golden retriever and 1 pit bull. I’ve had to train my golden retriever not to be aggressive wayy more than I’ve had to train my pit. Some dogs are more aggressive than others and that’s it. The breed does not matter. My pit is the most pussy dog I’ve ever owned. Anything louder than clap and she’s tucking tail back to the house. I’ve had to literally carry my pit into my room because she wouldn’t get off the couch while the vacuum was on. She will gladly jump into a puddle of water but you try putting her in a tub and you’ll see the nightmare that is. I’ve seen my fair share of horror videos of pit bulls doing damage and killing other animals, but you better believe that every video showed the owner not capable of controlling the dog. I’m willing to bet money that more than 60% of pit bull attacks the owner’s didn’t get past “sit, stay and leave it” on training and probably leave them outside free to roam wherever they please. In the end I believe that it is the owners fault (excluding the bad apples) and just because a dog is breed to be violent doesn’t mean that they can’t be trained out of it or that they will be violent in the first place.

There of been multiple studies and there’s never been any evidence beyond there’s a lot of people that attacked people, which can also be explained with pit bulls are cheapest shit and found in poor areas, Though there are differences between breeds for example Rottweilers and German Shepherd’s can be aggressive as fuck, it’s about how you raise them in the environment there and some animals I think will maybe just be better not in the city, Not to mention most people don’t even know what the actual pitbull fucking is the breed is pretty broad and a lot of people just say square headed dog is a pitbull

the more you look into dogs, the more I realize every single dog was bred to do something, if its a golden retriever, a pit bull, a lab, a border collie. all these dogs where working all day and for a purpose, living life half wild and half domesticated. now people keep them in small back yards and small apartments, these dogs have so much energy to be burned its sad. the smaller dogs however where bred as companions and are meant to be low manetaince and not need too much exersise.

I love whenever people talk about pitbulls the extent of research they have done is "I have seen videos. I have met some mean pitbulls." It's embarrassing. If your argument is that pitbulls are more likely to be aggressive, that is true. If you're saying it's just because their breed you are wrong. There are plenty of dog breeds that are naturally more aggressive, like Kyle said, and most of them can cause serious damage. The main contributing factor to pitbulls being so aggressive is that they are the majority of dogs used in dog fighting, and they are the majority of dogs used in low income areas to protect homes. Both these things teach pitbulls to be hyper aggressive, and then people see reddit videos of pitbulls attacking people with no other information and jump to conclusions because they don't know what anecdotal evidence is. Read any research paper on pitbulls, I have been unable to find a single one that showcases that pitbulls are more dangerous because of breed over training. Everything I've seen suggesting that pitbulls are more dangerous start and end their research at "pitbulls bite more people" which is not enough information to make any real statement. It's akin to saying black people are genetically more dangerous because they commit more crimes. There are so many other factors involved.
