The question of why we don't see any alien life anywhere is theoretically answered by the existence of a Great Filter: a phenomenon that any life comes across at some point that eliminates all of them without fail. A Great Filter would have to be something that is either a difficulty or trial that exists in the course of evolution for all life anywhere and is insurmountable, or that it's a piece of technology that every intelligent society discovers but is unable to handle without it killing them all off. In which case, this Great Filter could either be something that we passed at some point very fortunately, OR....it's right around the corner for us.

Believing in "aliens" visiting us comes directly from 2 things and only these 2 things: Your ability to think critically about what technologies could exist has been poisoned by a non-stop barrage of sci-fi and theory crafting, and You have a complete inability to grasp the scales involved in interstellar travel. For all we know, the only way to get from star to star could be a generational ship that takes 70,000 years between stops. But you'd have too many planets to "check", so that's not a great method. All of this is moot though since aliens can't even "see" us due to light speed being so insanely slow at a galactic scale. Effectively, no one in the universe can even tell there is "intelligent" life here. Because the spectral light change from our effects on the atmosphere has not reached them.

Considering that most war is based on resource scarcity and that scarcity pretty much disappears once you conquer faster than light travel because the universe is so full of resources that sometimes it's literally just floating in space tied to no specific planet. If that's the case then there's a good chance that they're several generations past their last war so Kyle's theory of them being peaceful explorers that we could easily kill and steal from is pretty good. The only thing is that if that's true then it could be our test to treat them kindly and we might just be given the tech that we might have otherwise stolen from them.

One time we were at a friend's house that lived rural miles away from my house. Nothing but open fields untill my house and the city. Well one night his dad was losing his shit so we climbed out his bedroom window and decided to walk to my house at 12 at night. When we were really far from his house walking out there I noticed some lights out in the field from us and I said why is there street lights over there. My friend said that there aren't any street lights out here. Dumb question on my part but then all of a sudden they shot off into the sky and disappeared. We lost our shit. This was in 2013.
