Oregon Crabbing - underwater Gopro video

The best time to go crabbing in Oregon is from August until December. This video was made to help answer questions people ask me about everything crabbing. I'll go over what bait and gear you would need. I hope these tips help.

Other tips: I usually soak my pots for about 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Longer if you like.
Incoming high tide is best, and high slack is preferred. Crabbing is good all along the Oregon coast, so I can't say one spot is better than another. However, the closer to the mouth is better, I find. But it can get rough near the ocean.

I used canned tuna fish as bait. It leaves a nice oil slick that draws the crabs in. If I can get tuna carcasses and freeze them up. I use those instead of canned tuna. And I've never had a problem with seals going after my bait if I've used tuna.

Good morning PK, I want your videos all the time especially your crab videos, I seen on KZbin that you rub anchovy rub on the chicken you will catch a lot of crabs I seen it on the video just yesterday you should try that out and he only took for less than an hour, you doing a very good job putting out those videos and it's very affirmative. I found my self being born in Eugene Oregon in 1952 and right away I wanted to go fishing and then crabing.. If you have not ever done it or are a novice to crabing this guys is right.. although a little wd-40 works well when added to the chicken.. But I never said that.. Well done my man.. now I want to go to the coast.. take note to how he keeps his finger on the line to feel the hits.. Also seal are out of season... go ducks!

same crab as here in nz , i commercially fished with pots baited with fish , cant get my head around chicken but hey it works and we dont have seals like you do , sharks dont have a go either , depth was about 3 feet to about 6 feet and 15 min fish time , we fished in the breakers , foo foo valve got alot of action at times

Yep. It's because of the sea lions. They will mess with your traps, and sometimes damage them, in attempt to steal your bait. I was using baitcages until they started getting smashed. I was even using chicken. My thought is the sea lions were after the crabs in my traps and were ramming my baitboxes trying to get the crabs out of my trap. I use the Promar Ambush Hoopnets.

Soft shells are ones that were recently molted, they don't have a lot of meat compared to the normal hard shell ones. Happy Holidays.
