I went crabbing in the Suislaw out of Florence in my inflatable on 10/22, dropped the first pot at ~10:am, right before low slack tide, stayed for about 3 hours and caught 12 keepers with 4 pots and 1 ring. We threw back dozens of small guys. It was just like you said, the difference was around 2.5 feet and there was loads of crab. I have gone to the same spot during a much higher difference and went home with 0 crabs. Thank you for getting me into crabbing and sharing your experiences.

Good advice from up here in Vancouver BC , I follow the same general rule , I always drop one hour before the slack tide either high or low , then retrieve usually around one hour after the slack tide , keeping in MInd if there is an extreme tide change ,

Wow PK, that's the best day I have seen you have in a while. You may want to show the folks how you know when it's a hard shell or a softshell. I missed one last season and felt bad for keeping it, almost no meat in it!
@normalperson96464 жыл бұрын
"soft" Dungeness crab will usually have a lighter color on the legs and underside. If you pinch/press on the legs and the underside, it will feel hollow/can easily pinch/press down the legs/underside without resistance/hollow. The whole crab itself will feel lighter compared to a similar sized one that is not "soft." The presence of barnacles or darker color backs/legs is most likely a crab that has had its shell longer/fuller than one that looks like it just molted/new shell/has not filled in yet.

Hey PK great video my friend. Here on the Outerbanks we catch or breed in tanks blue crabs and when the shed and are soft shell we clean the gills out and cut the face of the crab off then batter it and fry the entire crab lightly. They are incredibly delicious. I wonder if thay could be done with dingess crabs? Have u ever heard of that? Take care Gene

Ok PK that was a fantastic video, especially the tide explanation in the beginning. So my plan is when i move to Corvallis in March, is to throw pots when water is slow moving and to grab the Rake when the tide differential is big! Question...do you think using the Rake method would be just as effective during the day on low tide? Thank you for the excellent videos
@oregonlife4 жыл бұрын
Raking will be slower for sure. I don't think nothing can be dropping pots from a boat. But raking is definitely more fun. Good luck.

They're called "decoy clips", and you can search for them on Amazon: amzn.to/39vpIHb. I like the 4.5" - 5" size since they are easier to squeeze and fits the rope better.

Anybody going crabbing Wednesday Nov. 4th that has a boat and is looking for company and to throw a couple $ for costs.
