I usually just dump everything I don’t want to goodwill, but I’m going to start taking things to a women’s shelter. I have a lot of high end/high quality clothing that can be worn to interviews and higher end bras that haven’t been used much. :)

there’s several Buy Nothing groups in my area and those are great for giving away stuff *and* requesting anything you’re in need of (excluding things like money), i’m planning to share a bunch of stuff in the one i joined because free stuff for just some person can’t hurt

I just decluttered, so this is really helpful! I don’t know if I’ll be able to take my stuff anywhere other than goodwill because I rely on others for transportation, but it’s helpful to know about other options for the future!

Yeah, I get that. As far as I’m aware I don’t think any of these options will go away though so in the future if your situation changes you’ll know for next time ^-^

I dont know if this is only the case for my local Habitat for Humanity store, but my local store hardly throws away anything. There have been items sitting in that store for the entire 4-5 years I've lived in this town! It's kind of a shame that no one has bought those items, but it makes me feel a bit better that they're not going to a landfill after 6 months and instead have time for the right person to come along and find them.

There’s no goodwill in my area/country (at least I don’t think? I live in Canada), so I always donate to local thrift stores in my area~ I live in a less wealthy kinda rural area, so thrift stores are smaller and accept everything u give them, if it’s in good shape of course (each is different, but some take everything from clothes, to books, to home stuff!) :3

Yay! Yeah, shops in smaller towns seam less picky. Big areas that get lots of donations are much more likely to trash donations.

hi goodwill worker here i work on the sales floor. we don't take everything at my store mostly too heavily damaged furniture, furniture that take 3 people to lift or things that have common recalls (cribs,car seats,strollers). i have seen the most disgusting things people donate (orange pit stains, extremely worn clothes, pants with no crotch). maybe it's because of where i live i don't know about other states though.

My wife and I NEVER donate to Goodwill. There are a few church run thrift stores in our area.
