Great place to live. Nice buildings, not run down, on the main train line and motorway. Next to the dales, bowland fells, lune valley the coast. River and canal through it. 45 minutes to Manchester or liverpool. 30 mins to the lakes but 10 mins to Cumbria. Outdoor concerts, things to do, in middle of country to Scotland and London.

Love visiting Lancaster it has a lovely feel to the City.I live in a City that people love visiting but I don't go into my City anymore.I suppose when you don't live in a place and visit it looks more appealing! The Architecture is fabulous so much history there.

its a nice little place. Not the greatest in medieval buildings like York but River, canal through it, Cathedral., Castle, Parks. Its partly hilly which is great I feel for change in geography, not just flat. Surroundings does it for me, ease to the country and drive in the hills of the quiet, beautiful Bowland's, Lune Valley, Lakes, to the Dales and old villages, full of streams, rivers, nature, Hills. Next to the sea. Again, you have to see this to appreciate. I like the short trip to Knotts End and ferry to Fleetwood and tram to Blackpool if want.

Historically, Lancaster is a city (since 1937), but in reality it's a town, which is gradually being swamped by the university. The closed church that the camera passes at 6' 40" is now partly boarded-up, because of having had one of the large windows broken in 2019. The closed church at 7' 30" was last used as a bar, and has been shut for several years. The street you go on to at 11' 30" is the main street for beggars (there's one on the left at 11' 37"). The building at 13' 00" was the original town hall, now the town's museum, and the square you're passing through there can attract the town's alcoholics, unless the council has one of its periodic crackdowns. Not a very nice area for there are families passing by shopping, or wanting to access the museum and the library. As much as I loathe the university students taking over the town (all of the new accommodation being built in and around the town centre is for students only), I have to concede that if the university wasn't there, many more of the town-centre shops would be closed and empty than already are. The best things by far about Lancaster are the local music scene and that the town is surrounded by some great countryside - the Lake District, Trough of Bowland, not too far away are the Yorkshire Dales, and there's also a ferry service from Heysham to the Isle of Man. Good rail services to Manchester and Scotland.

He's right though. I visit once or twice a year, each time there's new student accommodation being built, some of which are complete eye sores, meanwhile some people are living in boarded up houses in the west end of Morecambe and the council do nothing. There's very little stability for business in the town centre, most shops are changed each time I visit. Sorry , but students should be living in caravans.
