ibizamaria Solche Vergleiche halte immer für schwierig , unnötig. Jeder der ganz großen Tenöre , Sänger , Sängerinnen hat etwas einzigartiges. Aber Wunderlich singt dieses Lied natürlich besser zumal es seine Sprache ist - Domingo kann es nicht einmal auswendig muss ständig auf das Textblatt schauen.

Very beautiful. I see it was more difficult to sing operetta aria than standard opera repertoire, but Placido came out as the winner.

Thank you! Sung beautifully, with a good German accent, by one of my favorite tenors. As I recall, PD kept this lovely song alive, from the operetta "The Land Of Smiles" (Das Land Des Lecheins by Lehar), while other operatic tenors snubbed it... Until they realized how much people loved it. Villazon (PD's student) also sings it beautifully. And I think it's been a boost for Kaufmann (Jonas, of course).

Beautifully sung. Domingo is a fabulous singer. It should be pointed out that this performance is a half step lower than the original, but it's a shrewd choice. PD now sings baritone roles and he always had a baritonal color to his voice.

He started off as a baritone then trained further to develop his magnificent tenor range, most tenors his age would either have retired. Some sadly died young. Listen to Jussi Bjorling. He died at the early age of 49. A sad loss to anyone who loved Opera.😢

@@helenakeane2449I'm not the biggest opera fan but Bjorling was my favorite years ago. He is the most remarkable singer. I recorded a show I heard on the radio in which he sang the Cujus Animam from Rossini's Stabat Mater. The high D flat is remarkable.

@@deantodd5042 I totally agree about Stabat Mater. Look up Arthur Davies, he's the only other tenor who can nearly equal Jussi in that particular piece. I have the complete recording of Rossini's Stabat Mater on tape and the only way I can listen to it now is on a battery operated walkman, which doesn't give the full effect☹️

I compared the two, though I like Kauffman’s voice, I still think Domingo is a little better. His voice is a little soft but full of emotions! Kauffman’s technique is good, but emotionally, Domingo is better. He won my heart!

Pity hear so much praise about P D´s singing, It is a squized pushed up nasal voice, not flexible, with a horrible grimace & a curled up tong. The voice comes out only thru sheer force. Never hear/sees that kind of thing in the real great voices: Wunderlich, Corelli, Distefano, Geda, etc., Their voice ring free in all registers & need not a nasal voice, a grimace or a curled up tong. I admire him as an artist; certainly not as as singer. Like him, there are a few over rated tenors about.
