Try giving houses “driveways” with an extra road tile in front or like in a neighborhood, because if you watch the cars they slow down when I front of a house. So, keeping your houses off main road or with a driveway will keep your cars moving fast!

Yeah, the road cars yielding to house driveways is pretty weird, but that means it's good to try to avoid that, you can have a whole neighborhood only have 1 connection that goes onto the main road and that can help a ton

I watched a highway engineer play this game, and pro tip from him: avoid intersections. You want as few exits in a junction as possible, because they slow down traffic a lot

I believe traffic lights, while less effective than roundabouts, allow traffic to not be slowed down by other cars waiting at the intersection, while only taking up a single tile.

they also give you 2 for one week, so they are great for solving a lot of traffic issues quickly.

@@WaterAndEarthGirl It can be good in some circumstances. They're actually kind of smart because they sense traffic coming and prioritize more important and faster moving traffic. Like lets say you have a 2 destinations after a highway, you put the lights at the close one so the cars with momentum can zoom past it to the furthe one and the close ones can wait till they've gone past

When a new colour spawns, you can really cheese it by putting roads all over the side of the map the new house spawned, forcing it to spawn closer. Sometimes I'll put tarmac over an entire island to force everything to spawn on the same side of a river. You can place roads to connect onto 2 cells for maximum coverage, since it takes 1 road to cover 2 cells, but each additional connected road only covers 1 more tile (so 100 contiguous roads cover 101 squares, but 100 separate roads cover 200 squares).

​@@swift8821 - It isn't a strategy, it is just one technique. My best score right now is actually on this week's weekly, where I got ~2k, and I did it several times. However I think I'm weak on some other aspects of the game. I mention it because it connects to the topic/title of the video "Placing Strategic Roads"; the idea can be taken further (for better or worse).

Another thing that helped me is supply and demand. Two houses placed close to a circle sky scraper is enough. Three is safe to close the road off. Distance? Roughly the placements at the start of the map. If you have cars constantly waiting inside their house, you have more than needed on that road

What I like about this game is that you can play it in a few different ways. You can min/max and use these little tricks to maximize score and minimize road usage, or you can try to make a interdependent city that lets traffic mix. I really like playing it to have main motorways and figuring out how to prevent traffic jams from different colors

if you place the roads in diagonal space 3 tiles and place another diagonal going to the same direction you can make only the big thing not appear because they are 3x2

Tyler, I found a way that you can rig which direction a shop faces, with roads. You mentioned it in the beginning and I wanted to share. Make the space 2 wide on the edge of the available map using roads, and then the shop’s entrance will always go towards the center of the area.

Likewise, if you don’t want a shop spawning in the center of your town, just lace roads around, making sure there isn’t a 2x3 area for a shop anywhere.

idk how this man unintentionally juggles houses that are not connected like they're not there. i struggle with changing entire structures of my road patterns but i should learn to do that more as evident from this video and still i cannot be as efficient as this man. tokyo is even one of my hardest levels, i can barely get 1500 pts. this man cleans up at 1500 to soar even higher.

traffic lights actually can be okay on some high tragfic junctions but the stop and go sucks and when there is not much traffic it slows down everything

Maybe the traffic lights work that if there are 2 roads crossing then the cars can only go forward and they can't turn to the side roads. Idk if it works like that but maybe, because otherwise they don't really make any sense because they just make things worse

It's quite entertaining to watch someone else, especially when I see things you’ve missed.... And then somehow you fumble through and keep getting better. At around 6-7mins you had a motorway coming from an exclusive dark blue housing estate in the east to a pointless round about in the south-west where the dark blue cars had to compete with the light blue ones when you could have bypassec the roundabout and kept everyone segregated in their own little ghettos. Meanwhile the “cream” and light blue on the left could have used a roundabout to ensure they were only crossing at one intersection with the bottom cream building connected to the north. ...alls I can say is, im glad nobody is watching my games to analyse how I play 😅

The game could use at some point an upgrade that you can pick that gives you planters or "parks" to block development. Could also give them a boost to nearby houses or something. A park next to a business makes the cars arrive faster or something. Maybe addon parking spaces to businesses as an upgrade.

So it’s possible to reach a point where your factories reach their limit and as long as you have enough houses feeding into them the game will run forever without adjustment. At that point it’s just waiting to rack up score, about 25k points per hour of waiting around. I found that about 13 factories is the optimal number to sustain. I have gotten 44,444 points on the Los Angeles map and 20,000 points on the Beijing map. I’m on the Tokyo map right now and I have a game going. I’m planning to stop at 9,999 since scores higher than that don’t show up on the leaderboards? Anyways I found out that if a double factory appears, your basically eventually going to die since those clog up no matter what you do or how efficiently. Plan efficiently and and try to control the area where factories spawn and you can do it too! This is only my third day playing :)

Your mouse gets progressively harder to see which makes it harder to know whats going on. Like I'll hear you place a tile down but unless it's a bridge or a motorway then I completely miss it.
