@laurabrijan5332Ай бұрын
Actually both ice and gas giants are kind of misleading names, as all four of the outer planets have a similar structure. The outer layers are gaseous, but because of the instense pressure the gas liquifies and becomes an icy liquid (like a slush puppy). The reason the outer two (Neptune and Uranus) are called ice giants is because they contain heavier molecules, like water and methane, which were ices when they formed but are now in a similar state as the hydrogen and helium in Saturn and Jupiter. They don’t have icy surfaces like one might imagine when thinking of an ‘ice’ giant. All the gas giant planets are actually super interesting once you learn more about them! -an astrophysics student

23:43 While this is the most popular theory, it does have a few gaps in it. Gaseous exoplanets in other solar systems, called Hot Jupiters, have been observed to be closer to their star than should be possible according to this theory. There have been a couple of attempts to explain this, but none have been definitively proven, making the real answer to the question, "we don't know."

@rawrthedinosawr9659Ай бұрын
The answer for the question around 24:00 is actually an old theory that has since fallen out of the the wayside. While not technically entirely disproven, observations of exoplanets have found that gas giants actually tend to form closer to their stars and that our solar system is very strange for not having a gas giant that close to the star. It could also of course be possible that this is just evidence bias though, as these close-orbiting gas giants are very easy to find.

the best thing about magic the noah videos is how chaotic they are. given the sample size the fact that the videos always end with a near zero score is just fascinating
