I feel like this building was designed to go alongside the Laundrette sign as the box art shows because it better shows off the Police Station sign. I also think that since the “rear” of the hotel is finished with windows and that whole elevation looking at the side of the art gallery and alleyway is attractive enough to have it exposed it could simply go at the end of a line of modulars and not necessarily connected to two in a corner arrangement.

I am completely on the other side of the fence - I really like the look next to the Parisian Restaurant. I might not see the whole picture and how exactly those two terraces interact with each other, but from the angles you presented I really enjoy that the palm tree has a place to breathe and similar areas of dining are not that distant from each other. On the other hand, when placed next to Assembly Square, I don't like the big wall right behind the terrace - creates an impression of a shady alley. Also the architecture style much more matches with the Parisian Restaurant IMO. It's interesting how impressions can differ from person to person. Good luck with your LEGO city!
@theBrickBlogger2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for demonstrating how the Boutique Hotel looks at different locations. Although I like the set, honestly, I don't think that awkward angle looks good near any of the other Modulars. I'm thinking that it might look best next to an open space, like a park. The unusual colors and odd shapes need some breathing room.
@samturpie17562 жыл бұрын
I agree! I like the design, but it doesn't really work all too well with the square formation of modular buildings. if the city block was more triangular in shape it would work perfectly in my opinion
@somethingawesome95472 жыл бұрын
I too wanted to see the Parisian restaurant next to the new modular; however, I do not think any of us meant for it to be attached on the palm tree side. That obviously would not look good. That essentially wedges a palm tree between two structures that otherwise look like they belong together. We were hoping to see it on the other side. And I don't think the corner garage looks good next to the boutique hotel. Looks like the Parisian restaurant would be more fitting. The problem though is that putting the restaurant there would ruin your layout since you need another corner set to be adjacent to the hotel.
@Fubuki432 жыл бұрын
The Parisian Restaurant actually has its wall more to the back than the 'wall side' of the Boutique Hotel, so those would not align well at all on that side unfortunately

It would look best next to a modular with "room" next to the patio side. Any modular with a flat wall by it, like the assembly square, will just look weird having that bare wall unless you modded it to be more visually appealing. That said, the Parisian restaurant looks best. Or the Lantern Festival.

Emily, I am having a hard time also fitting the Boutique Hotel into the city. I think the architecture does not fit into the city. And the building is a bit short. Perhaps if you expand your water front and beach area, the Boutique Hotel would fit better. The architecture of the Boutique Hotel fits a Caribbean setting best, such as Cuba or Jamaica. Just my opinion. The palm tree fits a tropical setting better.

Would you consider swapping the Grand Emporium and the Garage? I know it's a silly issue, but I just think that a 5 star hotel would go better next to a high-end shop rather than a garage (wouldn't a garage be relatively noisy and dirty?) And I think a garage is a better fit for the part of the city that features the police station and the Daily Bugle, where all the activity is occurring.

I hear the complaints for the awkward fit. This style of building in real life is one of my favorites. They can be found in a lot of cities; there's the Flatiron building in New York City; Columbus Tower in San Francisco. There are also many in London and beyond. These buildings aren't on a typical 90 degree street corner, they're designed to 'corner' two streets in a 'V' corner shape. I'm sure with a second set, maybe someone will figure it out how to do this, but this shouldn't have to be the case.
@lifesabrick51042 жыл бұрын
Have you considered building an 8 x 16 mils plate tiled section to create space between modulars? I built one to have next to the right side of the Parisian Restaurant, that way the stairwell to the upper floor doesn't get hidden and looks accessible. I tiled it off with different color tiles and added the popcorn cart, a bench, a unique street lamp and a bicycle rack. Assembly Square has an extra section as it is and I've always thought it odd to have all these buildings pressed next to each other wall to wall anyway.
@andrewtaylor9402 жыл бұрын
This one looks like it is going to be tuff to place on a shelf city. It's really got to be on the right hand side of a city block with the Cubo facing out. The other side is colorful, but unexciting. You need the busy and sharply angled side out. It combines the positioning issues of the Bank, Diner and PR in one 32x32 space. yay? It does look great though.

When modifying the sets for MILS, I took off the top floors of the modulars, then did my best to "break off" the first floor of the modular from the baseplate to move it onto the mils plate (from bottom to top: baseplate, brick, plate). Then I go through and move the tiles and any other pieces from the "original" set over to the MILS plate.
