Thank you! One of my biggest pet peaves is reviewers making demoes with styles or material that doesn't fit whatsoever for the product, so I make a conscious effort to match my playing to the gear - only expanding my range to highlight if the product can handle it. It astonishes me why some content creators even bother reviewing some products if they can't demonstrate how a majority of the intended user base would use it.
@djabthrash6 жыл бұрын
Word ! I also meant that besides choosing riffs that fit the intended user base; you picked riffs that are legendary (like that SYL "love" riff in this video IIRR). Sometimes in your videos (which i've begun to watch only recently) i hear one riff and i'm like "fuck i love this riff... which band is it again ?" :). Anyway, great job, and keep on throwing those classic riffs (metal or not) !

Sounds good but falls short on some frequencies compared to the rectifier ... which can be solved with an equalizer behind the pre amp. Possibly buy one to test it.

I noticed after I published the video that I was using my amp in Modern mode. This makes the presence on 0 equivalent to presence on 10 on the Vintage mode, meaning that my 12 o clock added a lot more highs. I imagine the pedal was modeled after a Dual Recto on an EQ setting to Vintabe, which accounts for a lot of that difference. An EQ pedal would get you ridiculously close to the capability of the real amp IMO.
@jackdeth50096 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I also noticed that you went "all noon" on the head, but had gain around three fourths on the pedal - more compressed.

The real Rectifier has that "microwave-cooking-your-brain", white noise, scratchy, high end wash that is characteristic of the Rectifiers (a characteristic I don't like at all.), whereas the 011 pedal sounds a bit more muffled, but much less harsh on the ears
@PlagueScytheStudios6 жыл бұрын
That's partially due to the amp being on the modern setting instead of vintage, which adds a lot of high frequency content. I didn't catch that until it was too late.

Might be pointless since they’ve already put a marshall pedal out, but a JCM800 pedal would be kinda cool. You could combine it with different power amps and have “modded marshall” tones. Pair it with KT88 tubes and you could get Kerry King’s Slayer tone or pair it with whatever Zakk uses and get cool BLS tones. Downtune and stick a boost pedal in front of it, you could pretty badass tones
@PlagueScytheStudios6 жыл бұрын
+Rene I believe their pre amp pedal is modeled after the JCM 900, but I would take a DSL or JCM 800 in a heartbeat. There's plenty of Marshall amps I'd like to see covered. And Zakk uses 6550s.

@PlagueScytheStudios6 жыл бұрын
+Arkava Goswami Thanks! This is the downside of the "everything at noon" method. It's as fair as I can make it at face value, but that doesn't mean 5 on the real amp equals 5 on the pedal, and I know for certain an actual Dual Rectifier would sound a bit deeper at these volumes than my Single. The pots are likely tapered differently between the amp and pedal. Between that and there not being a presence control on the pedal, I found it sounded best with the treble and mids at about 1:30-2:00 as a start. You can add some presence with the Radar in the power amp section as well.

Hi Arkava, I have the PreAmp 005, which emulates the 5150. The high end, especially when using the built in impulse, comes first when you crank the treble fairly high. Up to 3 o'clock is just the right space where the high end really comes up like in a real amp. Combined with a slight bit of EQ'ing and adding a comb filter to get a bit of the tight low-end, this sounds remarkably similiar to my Bugera 6262, which in turns sound pretty much the same as a Peavey 5150 Mk2 which is used in our band by the other guitar player.

I find all the Mooer preamps I've tried to have a lot of bottom end - usually you need to turn it most or all of the way down as as noon it's way to boomy. This one seems to be the same as your tests at noon have it way more bottom heavy than the real amp. No big deal - I just leave it all the way down generally and it's about right for most things.

Hey man, you saw that they announced a Preamp Live pedal, right? It looks perfect for a live setup, you can load up to 12 micro-preamps on to it, stage monitor with a poweramp & can and send a DI to the FOH with cab emulation. It also does MIDI so with a single press, you can switch amp/channel and control your MIDI effects - I think I'll pick it up along with an Ocean Machine (I already have a Magnum 44 poweramp) and that will be a beast of a live right right there!

Another Noob Question! New to all this. Like the idea of emulating amps at a price point I can afford. Hoping someone can help with a couple of questions: 1. Into what do you plug this in? A tube amp? A powered speaker? Something else? I see that your chain goes to a Mesa 4x12 Cabinet, but I'm too ignorant to know precisely what that means. 😃 Is that 4x12 powered? If you plug into a tube amp, do you have to do anything special to make sure it works and/or you don't cause and problems? Hope that makes some sense! 2. I'm also in the market for a tube amp as all I have right no is a nice little Bugera V5 bedroom amp. As I'm shopping, is there a particular kind of tube amp I should be looking for to best work with things like these? Features I should look for? Etc.? I like a lot of styles, but dream of Nick Johnston tones (Remarkably Human album, especially). Thanks for anyone's time!
@totalynotfunnyguy65814 жыл бұрын
Ransom Baggins I’ll try to give you a quick summary. An amp has basically three main components: a preamp, a poweramp section and a speaker. The preamp section normally shape your signal giving you more or less: gain, bass, mids and treble etc This pedal is a preamp, that means you can use this pedal as the preamp (that’s what he did in this video), instead of the amps original built-in preamp, but how do you do that? How do you turn off the amps original preamp so you can use another one? You connect it to the FX loop return of your amp instead of the regular input. That means this way you would be using the mooer preamp, and the original amps poweramp and speakers. If you would connect it directly to the regular input of the amp, you would basically have two preamp sections. If you wanted to use it ONLY with a cabinet not with an amp, you would need some kind of power section like a mooer baby bomb 30. So it would be something like mooer 011(preamp)--> baby bomb 30(poweramp)--> cabinet.

preamp wise it's the same as ge200 right? using a DSP? but for 250 bucks the ge200 simply has more feature to use on it such as FX, IR, Looper except midi capability. if it is cost more than 300 I think some of us prefer to get a ge200 to use it preamps :(

10:22 I'm not sure what he means when he says using it direct or with a cheaper amp is not really getting the full experience? Is it just like, if you're not using a mesa/marshall cabinet, it won't sound as good? Cos I thought the cab sim part of it was supposed to emulate that (obviously not perfectly), but...isn't it kind of a *given* that anything would sound better through a good cabinet - or am I missing something? Just wasn't sure. Otherwise, it sounded a bit dull/dark - I wonder if that was just because of the way it was EQed (maybe it just sounds darker with the same EQ as a real one, but you can brighten it up?). Very cool video though!!! I'm on the fence about whether to get one (or which amp version to get...) So thanks for the info and awesome side-by-side comparison!
@PlagueScytheStudios5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the on board cab sim is not as high quality as an Ownhammer impulse response or especially the real cab, but that's not what I'm talking about. I mean this pedal really comes to life when paired with a tube power amp, but many people who will be interested in this pedal at a sub $100 price tag aren't going to have one. Essentially, this is not a one and done purchase since it only covers the pre amp section. Still, this with the Radar sounds incredible, and that's only another hundred or so dollars.
@465marko5 жыл бұрын
@@PlagueScytheStudios Ahh, I get what you're saying. And I'm one of those people! - haha. Thanks a million for the reply, man!! Everytime I have played a mesa or any kind or mesa amp model I have hated it, but everytime I hear one they sound fucking immense, can never seem to get that sound when I play them. Would really love to see an orange one though, an orange rockerverb is the best amp I have ever used.
@ugisimmers68364 жыл бұрын
This could probably come from the way You actually play. It’s a matter of experience at some point, by that I mean that quite usually guitarists crank up the amps but barely touch the strings (obvious exaggeration and probably not the case with you) But there comes a point, where You can play physicaly hard and/or aggresive, but Your control and motion of the fingers make it come of quite mild, basic or just even tempered. With all this You could get more of the “big” sound by using basic overdrive pedal straight into a mixer than fethering guitar pluged into full cranked up mesa rig. Hope this helps!
@rosskane29714 жыл бұрын
@@ugisimmers6836 I have played over ten years, and never been one to abuse the gain so I don't think it's a control problem, yeh I get that being tentative at really loud volumes can be a problem but usually some gigging experience is enough to get ya over that. My problem is they just feel kinda dull and lifeless to me, and it's more of a feel then it is sound really. Might just be a preference for a british style drive, would need to play a peavey or something just to see. Now that I think about it I did try and 6505 and chose a rockerverb so maybe that's it.

While I think these pedals do a better job at sounding like the real amp than most software plugins do, you also lose the flexibility of completely changing your sound after recording.
