Wow man there is nothing plain or simple about that. I've been doing tree work for over 20yrs and would have had that tree half done by time you got done showing off. Just keep it safe and simple my man!

Nice and clear video quality. I wish you would talk and explain what it is you are doing throughout the video! You don't have to talk in great detail explaining every detail of what you're doing, but it would be nice if you would help your viewers (like me) to have some understanding of what you're doing and why. To me it just looks as if you are just moving all around up in the tree and I can't figure out why you're doing that unless you're just doing it for the fun and/or practice of it. And, could you make a video explaining (teaching) the method you used to ascend with your feet?

I give you the extra points for the safe part but need to work on the productivity part. Boom boom boom, trees done and on to the next one. My crew leader would of told me vamanos 10 times putting 2 lanyards and switching to canopy anchor like that.

Very cool. Another vid explaining how to advance your high point while up in the tree would be great. It was difficult for me to decipher what was going on. Also, a short vid on your initial anchor set up with that mini anchor plate and rigging below would be cool. Thanks for sharing.

intriguing to watch . wasn't entirely sure exactly what you were demonstrating but still enjoyed watching this.by the way those tree branches must be awfully strong as they looked way too small to support weight.very skillful and easy to see.thanks Andrew

Great vid! I only saw one minor thing you might want to make a habit of. It's good practice to keep your wrench several inches below the lowest aspect of the apex of your climb-line. In your case; the biner, acting as part of your line-retrieval system.

I am learning how to set up a basal anchor with the function that allows the ground crew to lower an injured climber in an emergency (without teaching them to climb and buying another set of gear). The way shown in this video looks like it would work.. Do you have a suggestion for a better setup?

I strongly agree. Andrew, this is a great video and thank you for taking the time to make it. It appears to show numerous basic scenarios, techniques, and options while climbing. I have to say, if you were to speak, voice-over, or even add text , I feel like you could convey so much more information here. I'm sure you have your reasons for this style of video, just something to contemplate. Thanks again for the content!

This really seemed like Overkill. Get your throw line up there, pull a friction saver up, run the Rope through it. Then tie a frictionless hitch at the base. Put your hand ascender on, run the climbing end through a grigri and back up through a biner attached to your acender and you have a 2 to 1 that is super easy up and down the tree.. Put a prussik above the grigri for added safety.. Seemed like a lot of fumbling with those lanyards at the top.. Not sure what you were trying to accompish.. Still fun to watch though

The GoPro I'm using in this video has a really crap mic that doesn't pick up speech too well, also I made this video for a buddy of mine in Utah who said "no descriptions, just show me how SRT works". It also works well for people who are hearing impaired, and people who don't speak English.

Brother I got to say if this is plain and simple then I literally have a lot to learn on SRT skills and I don't mean that in a derogatory manner. I have a new channel on survival and use only primitive rope climbing to compliment the survival skills. This has drawn my interest into learning more about basic SRT skills and climbing gear. I sub'd your channel to tag along and hopefully master some SRT skills in the process.

Nice video! 22:35 Doesn't putting the carabiner on the metal arm cancel out the safety of the prussic? I think I'd sacrifice a little speed for that benefit if the foot ascender slipped or something. What was with the purpose of the double lanyards at 9:04? I got that you were cleaning them up to move around, just not why they were used on the same point.

How hard will this be for a person that know nothing about SRT to learn to do this don’t plan to get any higher than 20-25 feet. Any and all advice would be gladly appreciate. Thanks for sharing. What size and style rope do you recommend for the type of climbing you do in this video?
@dfpguitar
@dfpguitar 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not that experienced myself yet but I see all the srt people recommending slimmer (like 11mm) lines with 24 or more strands, tightly woven. As opposed to the traditional arborist lines which are half inch, lower strand count and "bumpy".

where can you get those lanyard protectors/sleeves?
@TreeCraftbyAndrew
@TreeCraftbyAndrew 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Erik, The protective sleeve is tubular webbing like the ones used as slings for speedlining, etc. It's usually sold by the foot at Arborist supply stores and, occasionally, REI and it's very cheap. If I remember correctly the webbing I'm using is 2" diameter. Be sure to get the 'tubular'.

Im not about belitting but this is such bad work practice! srt is the shit for climbing and i wouldnt do it any other way! but this is just a really bad example, and made look really hard! try using a ring as a top tie or a cambium saver with a knot block, it save and easy to retrive

You use doubling strops for safety, but use a single rope for ascending and descending. It's not logically. It would be reasonable to use additionally second rope and Petzl ASAP LOCK on it.
