I’ve always wondered what that was too. I used to travel Goldmine Road often and I’ve always looked around that area out of curiosity.

Interesting. I thought maybe the works stacked the stones to sit on during a break or lunch, but some of those needed a machine to move them, they were huge. The mystery remains. Be safe❤❤❤❤

Cliff. The way they are stacked seems purposeful . Cheers, Rik Spector

My guess is a culvert for an old road to Mt Eagle from the railroad at the bottom of the valley.

Could be a cattle pen used to collect cattle grazing in the area during a local roundup. Probably built using block and tackle.

Having had the dubious pleasure of driving on Gold Mine road in Winter I wonder if that might have been a storage area for shale to be used to improve traction when the road was icy. It does seem likely that it was constructed after the road was constructed in the 1930s.

Perhaps to slow water down and the “doorway” could be an exit? Like a spillway?

When you were standing next to it, I was thinking that is height of a flat bed. Thinking it was a loading dock. You pointed out that a lot of the fill material was gone on the other side. Drivers could off load the bull dozers and other construction equipment needed for road construction.

Looks like it may of been a foundation for a weight station in the past. Drive a loaded wagon onto it, get weighed by the scale.

Mabe when they were building the road these rocks were surplus and they just stockpiled them for a future project

Great video-as usual. It's amazing how people just dump their trash in the woods with no respect or regard to historic sites let alone the wildlife. .. But at least we have not only yourself, but others that keep these historic sites on your channel to never be forgotten. Thanks again Cliff for what you dobecause in my opinion-its so very important to never forget them as they all helped to build this beautiful nation. It's people like you that make me proud to be a Pennsylvanian!

Looks like it could be a retaining wall to create a shoulder on the road

Yeah looks more like just stacked stones and not an actual building partly because there isn't really any sign of mortar tying them together.

Was that road built over an old railroad easement? That looks like it may have been an old coaling station.

Rocks are too big to be put there by a farmer. Definitely had a purpose. Your biggest clue is probably the coal. But i don't know what it is.

Maybe bigfoot made it
