not to ruin your comment but this song is based off of him and this girl dalilah (obviously but I forgot her last name) and the leader of the band met her at a party. He tried to woo her by saying he will write a song about her, she clearly stated she has a bf. He didn't care. He made the song about her and in an interview she stated that she felt like a wench because she thought she led him on (she didn't, he just didn't care and wanted her even though she has a bf) and even said that the song turned her life in a nightmare cause wherever she went it'd be playing, the pool, party, club, whatever.

I was really young, maybe around first grade, when this song came out. I had this ragged old stuffed animal beagle as long as I remember. When the song came out, I was so in love with it whenever it played in my mom's car that I named the stuffed animal Delilah. And yes I still have that stuffed animal to this day. some will see it as immature. But when I feel it's old fur and hear this song after more than ten years, it gives me the nostalgia of the young carefree days. If you read this thx I guess.

Plain White T’s hit, “Hey There Delilah,” was in the running for two Grammy awards, and people are still talking about the girl from the popular tune. Delilah DiCrescenzo, a very successful professional runner who just missed out on the 2012 Olympic Team, will be featured in the ESPN The Magazine’s February 18 music issue, in which she tells the story of how she ended up in the song for the umpteenth time: She was back home in Chicago while on break from school at Columbia University. She had a boyfriend at school, but met a guy at a party who was in this band called the Plain White T’s, and the musician told her he was going to write a song about her. A few months later, Tom Higgenson visited her house to drop off a CD. One of the tracks was called “Hey There Delilah.” She was flattered. Then the song got big. Real big. Nominated for a Grammy big. On February 8th, 2008, she attended the Grammys with the band. The song didn’t win, but she described the day as one of the best of her life. In years since, the song still follows her. And that’s okay. The song didn’t get Tom Higgenson the girl, she is still with the same boyfriend from college , but they’ve both enjoyed the ride.

This used to be me and my dad's song. He would sing it to me on the phone when he was thousands of miles away for work. He hasn't been apart of my life for 9 years, and for so long, I was unable to listen to this without crying. I still get emotional hearing it, but I'm finally able to listen to it fully. I know that this song is about him and his love, but I was my dad's love (not in a gross way bc I know how y'all be thinking) I haven't had a father figure for over half of my life, I just wish I could have experienced that with him
@snoopypvp19664 жыл бұрын
Starae Beauty this song has different meaning for everyone but your one is probably the hardest to hear :(
@MrPrachen4 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine what it's like not having a father figure. But I do know what it's like to lose somebody. You have memories of him and connections like this song, never let go of them. Even if he's not there these emotional links bring you closer to him, even if it doesn't make lot of sense. What the song itself is about isn't important. It's a piece of art and therefore whatever emotions you have asociated with it, those are the important aspects of that art. What anyone else thinks isn't as important as what it means to you. I wish you that this connection help you overcome difficulties of life, so that your father will keep being part of your life, even if not personaly.

Hey there Delilah What's it like in New York City I'm a thousand miles away, but girl Tonight you look so pretty Yes you do Times Square can't shine as bright as you I swear it's true Hey there Delilah Don't you worry about the distance I'm right there if you get lonely Give this song another listen Close your eyes Listen to my voice, it's my disguise I'm by your side Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me What you do to me Hey there Delilah I know times are getting hard But just believe me girl, someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar We'll have it good We'll have the life we knew we would My word is good Hey there Delilah I've got so much left to say If every simple song I wrote to you Would take your breath away I'd write it all Even more in love with me you'd fall We'd have it all Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me A thousand miles seems pretty far But they've got planes and trains and cars I'd walk to you if I had no other way Our friends will all make fun of us And we'll just laugh along because We know that none of them have felt this way Delilah I can promise you That by the time we get through The world will never ever be the same And you're to blame Hey there Delilah You be good and don't you miss me Two more years and you'll be done with school And I'll be making history Like I do You'll know it's all because of you We can do whatever we want to Hey there Delilah here's to you This one's for you Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me What you do to me Preložiť do jazyka slovenčina

I was almost 14 when this came out...and now it's 14 years old. You never realize how much of a baby you are at 14 until you see 14 years go by. As far as I'm concerned, there are no years when we're kids -- we just go to school, worry about homework and tests, play and hang out with friends, there is no concept of time other than the first and last days of school. We didn't care about time. Now we actively see time - dreading Monday at work, wishing it's Friday, for some it's seeing your own kids grow up, our parents getting old, experiencing relationships and counting anniversaries. If there's any 14 year olds in the comments - cherish your youth. Life goes fast once you graduate college.

@chenguangyang38383 жыл бұрын
After I learned about the backstory behind “Hey there Delilah” from Plain White T’s, I was moved to tears when I played the guitar singing the song. The lead singer( Tom Higgenson) met this girl Delilah, a university student at a party, and he immediately fell for her, even if she had a boyfriend at that time. He decided to write a song for her, although he didn’t really know her very well. The whole song is pretty much based on his imagination of New York City and how the long distance relationship would be. The song became a big hit in 2007, and it got nominated for Grammy Award in 2008. Delilah attended the Grammy award show with Tom, only as a friend. There is absolutely nothing romantic happened between them. Delilah was bothered by the song and by the disappointed fans of the band for quite some time. She did nothing wrong, after all, it is perfectly fine to be not interested and not feel the same way for someone. And it is not Tom Higgenson’s fault either, although it is kinda creepy to write songs for someone who was already taken. Real life is not always like a fairytale, and in most cases, there is no happy ending to it. As an artist, you can write most beautiful poems or songs that may last in history for hundreds of years, however, it can’t change the fact that he/she is simply not into you. The song tells the long distance relationship story that didn’t exist between Tom and Delilah, but it can always be someone’s story. In 2012, my first girlfriend and I went to different cities for universities. I still remembered the distance between us is 1241 km( 776 miles), which sounds like millions of miles to the 19-year-old of us with no cars nor extra cash for train/plane tickets. We hoped we can work out the long-distance relationship. However, it only lasted for months. It was a quite peaceful breakup. Many years passed, we never talked to each other, and we both ended up in US. I was in Davis California, and she was and still is in New York City. When I made the last minute escape trip to New York City 3 years ago on New Year’s Eve, she texted me and asked me out, and we had a dinner and some drinks near Columbia university, like two old friends. We were both single then, and we talked about those days when we were kids and laughed at the interesting moments we had before. When the night ended, we hugged goodbye, and we were back to the stranger mode. We both knew, we had our chances years ago, it didn’t work out then , and it wouldn’t work out now. Sometimes I wish there actually were some parallel universes, and in one of them, we all can have the happy endings. Maybe then, we can feel better about those regrets. Or, life is beautiful because of existence of those regrets, which reminds us to always cherish every moment and every one who appeared in our life?

This hits different when all the friends you thought would stay with you forever have drifted away, times changed, your favorite shows are gone. People come and go, you know that the friends you have now will leave you eventually and you'll die alone.. sigh Pain.
@paulkaufmann43814 жыл бұрын
Kinda think I will be at that point in a few years. Im about to finish school and even though I have 2 really good friends and many good friends, I think I will loose them in the future. But thats my fault I'd guess because I am just not a person that likes to spend a lot of time with people I dont really like, and I think the right people are still missing in my life.

HEY THERE DELILAH Hey there, Delilah What's it like in New York city? I'm a thousand miles away But, girl, tonight you look so pretty Yes, you do Time square can't shine as bright as you I swear, it's true Hey there, Delilah Don't you worry about the distance I'm right there if you get lonely Give this song another listen Close your eyes Listen to my voice, it's my disguise I'm by your side Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me What you do to me Hey there, Delilah I know times are gettin' hard But just believe me, girl Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar We'll have it good We'll have the life we knew we would My word is good Hey there, Delilah I've got so much left to say If every simple song I wrote to you Would take your breath away I'd write it all Even more in love with me you'd fall We'd have it all Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me A thousand miles seems pretty far But they've got planes and trains and cars I'd walk to you if I had no other way Our friends would all make fun of us And we'll just laugh along because we know That none of them have felt this way Delilah, I can promise you That by the time we get through The world will never ever be the same And you're to blame Hey there, Delilah You be good, and don't you miss me Two more years and you'll be done with school And I'll be makin' history like I do You'll know it's all because of you We can do whatever we want to Hey there, Delilah, here's to you This ones for you Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me Oh, it's what you do to me What you do to me Oh, whoa, whoa Oh whoa, oh Oh, oh

Back in July 2007 I left Colorado for the east coast for a nursing job. It was painful after living in Colorado 23 years and heading home. My son and spouse stayed in Colorado for 2 months as I started my new job in the North East. I was missing my family so much and this song was playing at that time. Every-time I hear this song it takes me back to 2007. Ripping my son who is blind from his school in Colorado crushed his teachers and friends. This song is deep for me with meanings.

I was weeping watching that video. There’s also a comment on here about a young man who is battling cancer listen to this song every day and it helped him beat it. What breaks my heart about the little Delilah is that this was her Make-A-Wish. That usually means times running out.
