Tumbela did a great job here. Showed that he could fight and was submissive enough to show he wasn't a threat to the PCS. Had he ran before or after the confrontation I think it would have been worse for him. Besides he wasn't going to out run them, he was right to play it cool and not panic.

The PC Males sent a firm warning with those roars. Tumbela had his head completely down. Those two males are also slightly larger than Tumbela. Especially the one on the right.

I hope this encounter serves as a reminder for him. That having a partner is important to his life. Nkuhuma male may not be strong male. But if he cooperates and forms an coalition with the Nakuhuma male. They will instantly become strong and stable. Be patient and strong and one day it will be yours.💪

You're right. He could go southeast, join up with Nkuhuma, and they could have the Talamati girls, and maybe Ms. Tsalala too. I'd say--I've said this elsewhere--Skorro Jr. with Nkuhuma should be an equal match for the Gijimas. So, they'd have a chance. The PCs are a bit stronger, probably, than either of these as pairs. But the PCs haven't shown much interest in going east and staying there, so .... Another issue though, for a potential Skorro Jr.-Nkuhuma pair in southern Londolozi could be the Kambula males. Actually, Nkuhuma is probably a bit more muscular than Skorro Jr. See the video of them at that carcass where Skorro Jr. winds up almost sitting on Nkuhuma's head. BUT, Nkuhuma had been slighty ahead of him running to get the dinner. Nkuhuma is at least EQUAL to Skorro Jr., but really doesn't know it. Nkuhuma gave up trying to be a partner "brother" to piggy Skorro Jr. Yep, kind of a piggy. But Skorro Jr. cannot pig around with the PCs.

Tumbela has the most dramatic and impressive story at the moment. Both of his brothers died, all the lionesses in his pride were killed, other coalitions came to his territory (Nhena&Nkhuma, PCM, and others) he was seriously injured in his back leg and was left with sequelae for the rest of his life, but he still stayed on his land. He sees the PCMs coming towards him but refuses to leave, look for other videos to see that in the end the PCMs left and he remained.😄 Tumble the lion of the moment in Sabie Sands!🔥👏 Unfortunately, if he doesn't form a coalition, he won't be able to truly rule a territory.

Sadly Tumbelas 4rh brother who joined Tinswalo Coalition in another area has lost condition and said to have TB. He's dominated by the Coalition and Pride, Shewsh. I wish he could join Tumbela.

He is doing well with Mandevu and Ncile who dominates Mbiri pride, he has food, he has protection but unfortunately I don't think he will live more than a year because of TB.

@@dominicstone8109 There were 4 brothers born in Nharu pride sired by Thanda Impi Males, 3 of them went to Sabie Sands and were named Tumbela males and the 4th was lost/separated from them and made a coalition with 2 Tintswalu Males and took over Mbiri Pride (the pride in which the two Tintswalu were born sired by the Thanda Impi Males). When the Tumbela males arrived in SS, they took over the famous Otthawa Pride from the old legend Hairy Belly Matimba. 2 Tumbela died one after the other from TB and only the last Tumbela remained who was their leader. Being alone, it was difficult for him to protect the territory from other coalitions of lions that were trying to take over Otthawa (3 adult lionesses, the oldest was Mapogo's daughter). Trying to protect the cubs, two lionesses were killed by other males and the third was killed by a neighboring pride. Thus, Tumbela was left without territory, without Pride and with two daughters one-and-a-half-year-old who normally would not have been able to hunt, but they proved to be special and survived also because their father did not left that territory.

Still, I don't think it was the best option for him. The best option for him was for him to find a partner and form an coalition. The life and reign of a male lion requires brothers or coalition to support him in every conflict. Which is one of the guarantees of stability in the territory and females. He's not the Robin Hood in the movies who lives a lonely life full of women and money. But this is real life and the ultimate goal of male lions in the wild is to pass on their genes to their offspring and live as long as possible to expand their race. This is the essence and success of the male lion and his coalition.

It's impossible to know what Tumbela male is thinking for sure, but it reminds me of when a lion is trying to get respect to join a coalition. His scent is all over the lionesses and territory and he constantly hangs out. He stood his ground well with the PCM. Impossible to tell what the future holds, but it sure would be an interesting development.

Thanks for this synopsis. The Thumbnail shows that they're all beautiful. PCM are really robust and admirably bonded and in sync. Good of them to rough him up with harmless warning. Bad move to bully Nkuhuma, who tolerated that from Nhena as a Daddy. Is there any update on Nkuhuma since the recent attack on his back?

He went South following the buffalo herd and spent a couple of days with the Talamati lionesses before running away after the Gijimas came to his location roaring. He's in Londolozi now.

I actually believed the PCs were not extremely tall at the shoulder. But based on the videos of the recent fight with Dumbella .... I'd say the "smaller" PC is slightly taller at the shoulder than Dumbella.

The bigger two lions attacked the smaller lion who was resting but he still fought back with courage and didnt back down and was ready for more but the other two bigs lions knew he was no coward and then backed down with their tail betwen their legs. One to one he would of killed one of the bigger lions A true warrior with balls of steel.

In terms of instinct. He is definitely a threat to the children and Mhangeni females. But the truth is that this isn't the first time they've faced each other. They know each other very well and the Tumbela male played well with the game this time. If he gets up and starts running away. The chase will begin and things may change.

One reason could be that they are more ambush killers but avoid direct battles. They failed to deliver a critical blow in the first few seconds, so they let him go to avoid a big fight. Its the same with Nhenha really. He also received plenty of warning and was chased out of western sector nearly constantly. The final skirmish probably went rather similar. But where Skorro managed to keep his body out of the PCmales jaws until the PCmales spared him. Nhenha already received to much damage at that point. So died even after the PC males let him go. Another might be that the skirmish happened at the edge of their territory. So they may be content with just chasing Skorro back to his part of the reserve rather than expanding territory.

Plains camps so far may have sired 15 offspring in Western sector with 3 different prides, 2 NK breakaway subadults their oldest litter, 10 Mhangeni pride cubs their second litter, and their third and newest offspring 2 new cubs of Ximhungwe pride and other Ximhungwe lioness was reported to have a cub hidden aswell

@@kylemisac2492 They can go "back and forth" for a number of years, if they remain strong and healthy. UNTIL that bigger coalition drives them out or captures some of the prides. The PCs definitely have youth on their side in a general sense. Keep in mind that one of those prides right now is only 1 adult lioness and 2 subadults. They've not completely abandoned her, or at least they visited her maybe a couple months back. But what can be seen in many videos is that male lion coalitions will probably focus more attention on a pride with younger cubs. Coalitions might gradually abandon a pride and move on to the next one and have cubs there. Sometimes coalitions have more than one generation of cubs with a pride before abandoning it, obviously. Also, "expanding" territory will probably result in prides with older cubs being completely abandoned eventually. Then new males come in and "takeover," without having to fight. Meanwhile, the older pride males focus on their newer conquests and cubs.

@@kylemisac2492 You know that Dumbella actually tried to leave the area completely, late last year, I think it was. He stayed away, in Manyeleti, for a month or so before he came back. Exactly, sometimes it might be more dangerous to deal with unknown dangers than the known ones. So, maybe he felt too much "heat" from multiple other male lions in Manyeleti and the northeast of Sabi Sands, including big subadults "coming up". Right? So, he made a decision. He could've challenged the S8 male. But, then he would've had to deal with both the 2 Black Dams And even the Red Road male. You know what's been going on, right? Also, the 4 Nkuhuma subadults with Mohawk, AND even the 2 Talamati subadults--who probably decided NOT to deal with the PCs in the west.

@@Zigarrenbaum Danke. Understood, I figured it out. But the damaged hind legs issue happened already some months ago. If you look at more recent videos since then, he's walking okay, no real problem anymore. So, that's not a valid excuse here. Also, no valid excuse because lions can hear, see, and smell MUCH better than humans. Keep this in mind. But yes, cats can sneak up VERY quietly--you see how the PCs were moving. Also, smell/scent can depend on which direction the wind is blowing. But still, Dumbella could've probably avoided this situation. He's been dodgeing them for months, though they've probably beaten on him at least once before this.

Tumbela seems to habe issues with Impuls control. Despite his age and experience his actions follow emotional urges without consideration of consequences. Most likely because they dont see him as a threat this attack was just asserting authority and dominance, letting Skorro know that this is their territory now, if Skorro had a partner or was in a coalition atm then this fight would more different and have bloodshed. But lions are pretty unpredictable the next fight could end up worse

Wow.. they know when and what to do at most any time!! When he laid down, they ran for him and slowed the mode just before the attack. You must accept the fact that. Killing, conquering and declaring supremacy are part of the lives of male lions in the wild. They have been doing this for thousands of years on Earth. That is their way of living. The population of lions in the wild is continuously decreasing. It did not come from their battles or territorial disputes. But it arose from human activities and the continuous expansion of space.

Its not as simple. If lots of lions survive. That means that there will be a lot of large coalitions roaming the land so you get lots of takeovers. Making it very hard for lionesses to protect their cubs or make enough kills to feed everybody. So the numbers would plummet a few years later. Killing Skorro would have been harsh. But if his death prevents the Ximhungwes from losing another litter. The amount of lions would be a net positive. A lion population boom would also threaten the local, cheetah, leopard, wild dog and hyena etc population.

Wishful thinking, that would never happen, it's like wishing that people don't go to war. Animals and people are no different.
