Join Miguel and Alejandra with Wintershoek Safaris, South Africa. Guided by Johnny Viviers, we were hunting plains game, enjoying beautiful South Africa while having lots of fun and laughter.
Miguel harvested many plains game species including Waterbuck Eland Kudu Impala Zebra Springbuck Wildebeest and Wildebeest. We enjoyed tasting these in camp, perfectly prepared by Chantel and Nina and Nora. Great group at Nyara Lodge.
Springbuck: 16:50
Cape Eland: 22:10
Giraffe: 29:50
Waterbuck: 46:19
Zebra: 49:24
Blue Wildebeest: 55:30
Kudu: 1:06:00
Impala: 1:31:47

Very well explained about the real meaning of conservation. Hunting is the best way of conservation of these animals. Without hunting no money will be coming in to Africa and many will suffer including animals and without hunters there will be no African animals. People who are against hunting do not understand this. Amazing video.

Animals are nobody's property and as much a right to life as human shit. And preserving to kill is so absurd, incongruous and meaningless that it would be better to exterminate the animals at once.

I liked how the PH explained to her why it’s okay to hunt the Animals they were hunting. A lot of people don’t understand and know the full extent of the Hunting that goes behind it. They hunt Older males that are on the downhill of already expiring. They know what’s going on and that’s why they are able to hunt. The meat and $ goes to help the animals.

By far the best PH I've seen out of all your videos that I've watched. Especially when it comes to imparting knowledge of not only specific animals but the overall biology and ecosystem. The only part that gets me is he's really touchy without need. Also have to say that while it's not the best Miguel has far better muzzle awareness than so many others I've seen.

@@AfricanSunProductions good luck in Alaska. Was supposed to go on a DIY moose hunt in the Yukon last year. Canceled and postponed for 2022 due to COVID. Nothing of your caliber though. I would love to have it done professionally sometime.

Hello Wintershoek Safaris! I have a few questions, so always go to the source, right? I watch your videos quite a lot. I fully understand how animal conservation works, and that much, if not all of the meat is donated to the locals. - Is the meat fully donated, at no cost, or do people buy as if buying from a regular meat market? - Why aren't the locals, or those receiving the donatations, given animals to manage & cull on their own as needed? - Is it more a matter of convenience? - Wouldn't that help create less food dependency from the govt and hunters? - People have herds of goats and cows, why not other prey animals? - Are any of your hunts canned hunts? I understand that most animals, especially mammals, are edible. Please explain to me why certain animals are hunted. - Do the locals eat lions? -What happens to the lion carcasses? I assume giraffe meat is donated, because one of your videos showed the processing. - What about rhinos? I thought they were protected. Poachers are given death or stiff sentences. - Why is it ok for wealthy people to kill one? - What happens to the horns? - How much does it cost for a hunter to book a safari to cull several animals? - Does any of that money go to the govt? - What other methods are in place for managing the size of the herds, besides culling? - What about castration, or relocation to areas where the predators have scarce food? Naturally, you wouldn't want the predators becoming dependent on human interaction. Wouldn't this be a form of conservation & preservation as well? Last question... - Do you have armed security for your safaris for unexpected happenings? I hope you or someone may be able to provide some insight to my inquiries. I am an animal lover, but I know conservation is necessary to preserve them. Thank you

Good day makanehula. I'm not sure if Wintershoek followes the comments on my channel. I cannot speak for them but will try to answer a few questions based on my hunting experience, not only from Wintershoek. - Is the meat fully donated, at no cost, or do people buy as if buying from a regular meat market? Depends on the area. Many areas it is donated to villages, schools, old age homes etc at no cost, it is even delivered free of charge. Some areas there isn't any organizations close by then meat is kept in a freezer and usually bought by a butcher to be processed. - Why aren't the locals, or those receiving the donatations, given animals to manage & cull on their own as needed? Most people don't have the needed funds, land and/or the needed expertise to successfully manage wildlife. This has been done in most African countries with limited success though. - Is it more a matter of convenience? Not sure what this refers to. - Wouldn't that help create less food dependency from the govt and hunters? People have herds of goats and cows, why not other prey animals? The most meat is harvested by properly managed hunting concessions with qualified managers. The average domestic animal owner does not know how to manage wildlife. - Are any of your hunts canned hunts? As you can see many of the animals in the movie has young with them, they live and breed on their own. Only a selected few are hunted, leaving the rest to multiply naturally. - I understand that most animals, especially mammals, are edible. Please explain to me why certain animals are hunted. Most animals are hunted for a combination of reasons, including meat. Only a few species are not used for human consumption, eg baboon. - Do the locals eat lions? -What happens to the lion carcasses? In many African countries Lion is a delicacy. Even the bones are utilized. - I assume giraffe meat is donated, because one of your videos showed the processing. This is correct. - What about rhinos? I thought they were protected. Poachers are given death or stiff sentences. This is also correct. A certain amount is legally hunted each year, usually old males or females that don't breed. Normally these older males will keep the young males away from the females leaving the females to miss a year or two instead of having a calf. The difference between poachers and legal hunters are huge. Poachers kill everything and anything, legal hunters only hunt according to management plans. - Why is it ok for wealthy people to kill one? The funds are needed to protect the species as a whole. During drought these Rhino need to be fed and protected by anti-poaching teams. A single rhino will eat about $550 worth of feed per day, excluding mediation, protection, water supply etc. - What happens to the horns? Depends on the situation. Normally the hunter can keep the horn. No legal trade is allowed after this. - How much does it cost for a hunter to book a safari to cull several animals? Depends on country, area, time of year, which animals etc. Best to contact outfitters directly. - Does any of that money go to the govt? Yes. - What other methods are in place for managing the size of the herds, besides culling? Management of land and habitat. Protection by armed guards. These are to increase herd sizes. Culling, legal hunting and moving herds to different areas are to decrease herd sizes. - What about castration, or relocation to areas where the predators have scarce food? Castration is very expensive and, believe it or not, many anti-hunting organizations are against it. Relocation is done especially in South Africa. Last question... - Do you have armed security for your safaris for unexpected happenings? All foreign hunters must be accompanied by a qualified professional hunter at all times. I hope you this answers your questions, if you have more please send them through.

"There are at least two spiral slams, southern and all the rest. Most of us have the southern which is nyala, kudu, eland, bushbuck. To make it tricky one should add sitatunga to that list as it is available in a couple places south of the equator. Then you have to add the mountain, nyala, all the bushbucks, sitatunga's lesser kudu, Lord Derby eland, and don't forget bongo, I may be leaving something out? " This is one explanation I could find.

Hi Mandla. International clients are normally not allowed to take any meat due to airline policies and also their home country laws. If you hunt in Zimbabwe it will definitely be possible. If you hunt in SA it might also be possible depending on your mode of travel. Best is to discuss this with your outfitter and see if there is a plan to be made.
