I really respect Ben Drew. As a person as much as an artist. I enjoy about 99 % of his music. I must admit that I had never heard of Ben until Strickland Banks, as I have never been into, or appreciated, hip hop/rap previously. However, something about Ben's music sucked me in. Out of all of his music there are possibly only 3 or 4 tracks that I don't like. After discovering that I liked his older stuff I started listening to more hip hop and rap artists. I have found that I actually like, appreciate and enjoy the genre. I don't pretend to know much about it, however, every month I learn of new artists and introduce myself to new tracks. Thanks Ben. I have really enjoyed discovering, learning and listening to a genre that I never considered before. Also, I read a lot of negative comments on other threads about how Plan B should stick with hip hop, not mix up genres and how people don't like the change in direction that he took. Ok, well fair enough - if you don't like it then you don't like it. However for those that think genres should never evolve or that one artist should stick within one genre, they seriously need to expand their minds. We are all more than one thing. Music is ever evolving, as are people and tastes. Thank goodness too. We wouldn't be able to listen to hip hop otherwise would we? Black people would still be in cotton fields and white people wouldn't be allowed to rap on TV . . . Lets keep evolving, being diverse, following our hearts and always striving for social advancement. It's artists like Plan B that facilitate these changes, plus the brave people all over the world that fight for social change and justice. I have so much respect for anyone who strives to make things better and puts what is right before what is easy.
